San Francisco approves emergency declaration in Tenderloin

A state of emergency declaration in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district has been approved by the city’s board of supervisors.

Mayor London Breed proposed the declaration last week, which allows the city to waive certain laws in an effort to more quickly address the drug use and homelessness in the Tenderloin, according to the city.

Some actions officials said they are planning are opening a temporary site where people with substance use issues can receive behavioral health services and get off the street. The emergency declaration allows the city to bypass some contract and zoning rules to get this site set up fast.

In addition, the state of emergency allows the city to expeditiously hire 200 behavioral health clinicians to fill current vacancies, waiving certain laws around hiring, the city said.

“The Tenderloin needs change, and that requires us to do things different,” said Breed in a press release. We showed during COVID that when we’re able to use an Emergency Declaration to cut through the bureaucracy and barriers that get in the way of decisive action, we can get things done and make real, tangible progress.

NOW I GET IT!!! All the hype about London Breed fixing problems in SF was nothing more than a giant power grab.

Don’t like a law? Simply declare it no longer valid or increase enforcement of it. You know, “mares” can do that stuff.

This is probably good news if you’re an unemployed behavioral health clinician. But as far as it even mitigating S.F.’s problem, let alone fixing it, no chance. Zip..
Zero.
None.

Liberal mindset: change the laws against whatever the problem is and now the problem is solved!

When the thugs started hitting the high-end stores and breaking into luxury vehicles, that's when they sprang into action.

Look how fast the thugs who carjacked that Rat Rep in PA were caught.

The moral of the story is: You can rob and destroy the people, but don't you dare attack us elites.

So behavioral health clinicians are going to fix a crime problem?

Conservatives in California need to leave post-haste. You can’t fix stupid and you can’t negotiate with insane.

They plan to just declare an “emergency” whenever they want, and enact whatever orders they want. Passing laws is so “old fashioned.”

“How is the tenderloin.”

The Soylent Green facility has just opened and is being tested.

We will have to wait for the food testers (aka “health professionals”) to evaluate it.

Self loathing, masochistic liberals in power create locales that reflect their own miserable inner state. The devolution of San Francisco and other urban areas should be a warning to all decent people as to the real hazard of voting for any Democrat.

Ha. I don't know why I was expecting the 'emergency action' to be the city hiring 500 beefy MALE cops with big sticks to clean up the Tenderloin with extreme prejudice.

Nope. More mamby pamby liberal coddling TREATMENT CENTERS and behavorial do-gooders.

When will I ever learn.

Whenever I see a special program being set up to “solve” a problem the only thing I can think of is “slush fund”.

This is the way politicians line their pockets.

The beauty of this type of corruption is that it looks like they are doing something, books are seldom audited and the problem never gets solved so they can do it again later.

There are several mothballed military bases in the Aleutian Islands. Would be a shame to see them go to waste.

well, I wonder what they will do with all the socially spaced tent dwellings?

not to mention those tent dwellers that are not politically correct

What holds those from blowing away or do they drive stakes into the asphalt?

Recent tent design supports the tent with flexible aluminun rods curved to form the tent contour and putting the entire fabric structure including the floor in tension.

The contents inside on the tent floor must be adequate to resist wind when on concrete or asphalt.

In San Francisco, I would think there is a progressive women’s group of volunteers that go round offering free tie downs
