SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — It’s not often that bacon leads a roundup of new laws taking effect with the New Year in California.
But even in progressive California, that’s the headline-grabber.
It’s among a host of other legislation designed to safeguard employees, shield those seeking abortions, protect protesters from police, spare children from gender influence in store displays, and further ease criminal penalties to reduce mass incarceration.
Several of the laws mark national “firsts” — first minimum wage to reach $15 an hour, first to protect warehouse workers from quotas, first to mandate hourly wages for garment workers, first to require the gender-neutral displays.
But first...
WHAT ABOUT THE BACON?
The sausage-making stems from a 2018 ballot measure where California voters set the nation’s toughest living space standards for breeding pigs starting Jan. 1.....

Prepare for California insanity to continue to permeate a state near you.
And living in Reno, I wonder if I should open a Bacon Stand to sell bacon to visiting Californians?

That law will be shot down by the courts. It violates the commerce clause of the US Constitution.
Doesn’t this happen in New England states where they hop to other states to get get cheap beer and liquor?
Omigosh. You mess with bacon and then add the demonic laws above…what a train-wreck!
More bacon for the rest of us. Hopefully prices will come down a little.
You should read the 21st amendment which repealed prohibition. It specifically allows alcohol to be regulated by the states that otherwise would violate the commerce clause. About the only thing the courts won't allow the states to do is treat out of state producers differently than in state producers.
“About the only thing the courts won’t allow the states to do is treat out of state producers differently than in state producers.”
The US Constitution, not today’s courts gives states much more discretion and law making authority than the federal government. The founders intended laws would vary from state to state in areas of governance which were not covered by the enumerated powers of the federal government. The idea was to keep government responsible to people at the local level
.
The majority of people in California seem happy with the government in place. They recently voted not to remove the governor and every election cycle it seems more far left politicians are elected. Those citizens of California who are unhappy with governance at the state and local level can accept the situation, leave the state, or organize and try to elect candidates who will govern differently. I know several small business people in California who constantly complain about state and local government, the courts, the education system, and over regulation. Yet none of them takes any action other than voting in elections. My conclusion is they like the weather and the lifestyle and are comfortable. The cost and oppression of government is somewhat annoying but is not bothering them enough to expend personal energy, time and money to effect change.
I haven’t even looked yet and I’m guessing that’s the commercial, LOL
Bacon and ammo shop for all Californians to visit for their fixes.
Bacon, ammo, and gas powered lawnmowers.
That recall vote was tainted with fraud.
“...while another requires community college classes to have the same course numbers as the comparable courses in four-year colleges to reduce confusion.”
This one I can agree with, God have mercy on California for all the others listed.
“And living in Reno, I wonder if I should open a Bacon Stand to sell bacon to visiting Californians? “
With these kind of laws, and their gun/ammo laws, it will be interesting if California’s Ag Inspection Stations (located at all entrances to the state) become more like Customs checkpoints.
“That law will be shot down by the courts. It violates the commerce clause of the US Constitution.”
LOL, good one!!!
And living in Reno, I wonder if I should open a Bacon Stand to sell bacon to visiting Californians?
It’s the thought that counts. IOW Virtue Signal
one would think California politicians would concentrate on real problems like high gas prices, Pacific Gas and Electric putting of infrastructure improvements to avoid big fires people fleeing the Golden stat and high taxes in lieu of going off on gas powered weed eaters.
But hey, one party rule and that just happens to be the mookabooking crazy party.
Glad I fled there 45 years ago for the free state of Florida.
Yes, and like ammo, easy to watch people buying stuff at Cabela’s etc. and then heading for the border.
