I strongly endorse Hoffer’s book for high school kids. It’ll make you pause think. Eisenhower actually mandated the book to his staff to read in the 1950s.

I certainly agree that a large mass of the population is firmly in thrall with COVID fear. I don’t consider it to be a psychosis, though. It’s simply mass misinformation.

A very large percentage of the population gets its information from biased media and social platforms. These people are not only misinformed, they know there is differing information available, but they simply don’t care to assess it. They convince themselves that it is you that are misinformed.

This can be blamed on ‘psychosis’, but I believe it is based on intentional misinformation. It is the purveyors of the Fake News who are psychotic. They are the ones who lie, know that others know they are lying, and live if fear that they will be exposed. Ask the Cuomo brothers how that feels.

My point was the illustration of the techniques and such were so similar; when the chancellor rants about getting something onto every newspaper, TV, and the “interlink” it was a foreshadowing of the media’s performance in 2016 (the inevitable Hillary) and 2020 (”Orange man bad”).
