For mass formation psychosis interested folks, who want some insight...a book from the 1950s...’True Believer’ by Eric Hoffer, I would recommend. About 170 pages and you can read it easily over a weekend. Hoffer takes you through the influences and how a society can believe something that is all faked-up.

In the end mass movements that succeed often bring about a social order worse than the previous one. (This was one of Will Durant’s findings in The Lessons of History.) As Hoffer puts it near the end of his work: “All mass movements … irrespective of the doctrine they preach and the program they project, breed fanaticism, enthusiasm, fervent hope, hatred, and intolerance.” (p. 141)
So THAT;s where my resistance comes from. I read that book in the early 70's.
