Eyewitness to Marshall Fire origin recounts scene like a ‘war zone’
Video by Mike Zoltowski appears to show devastating blaze’s earliest moments
A neighbor of a property where a small structure was seen on video engulfed in flames late Thursday morning said he witnessed how those flames appeared to touch off what became the devastating Marshall Fire and that there might also be at least one other ignition source.

Grass or other ground fires spread easily upwind since that was before the strongest winds which subsequently spread the fire rapidly downwind.
I saw a report over the weekend that stated they did not find any downed power lines which was the initial report of the cause.

In any case, it involves the Park and Ride lot named El Dorado, across from the Marshall Mesa trailhead.
“The line that was reported I believe was the telecomm line that hangs below (the power line) and it’s down on the ground, and it’s an inch thick, it’s huge,” Pelle said. “And I’m told it can’t have enough electricity to start a fire, but it’s right in that spot where your eyewitness said they saw a fire, and there’s a pole that’s burned there. I’m just saying, I don’t want to jump to any conclusions. I want expertise involved.”

Their dwellings are one block north of our house, one of their businesses one block south.
A hard working group, they have restored historic buildings, had a clothing store in one, a workshop and offices in another.
Covid and the internet finished off the clothing store, which they are now converting to other uses.
They restore people too, a lot of their member were druggies and Greatful Dead fans (I am too, minus the drugs). They bought and rebuilt a hydro electric generation plant about an hour south of here in New Hampshire.

A lot of these fires are intentionally set these days.
The way those winds were rushing through, suppose anything could have sparked, and then taken 1000 buildings along with it.
Frightening for complete devastation to come out of nowhere at a place of normal life. Looks like just an average highway route on any average day (minus that wind.)
No homeless people to blame it on. In California normally the arson wild fires are blamed on homeless people.
no downed power lines ... the earliest video shows the fire starting in one of those little TuffSheds on a new construction site a few feet west of CO 93 and about a quarter mile NE of the stoplight at the corner of CO 93 and CO 170 (also called Marshall Road) ... the shed and construction equipment was newly placed as does not show up on google maps ...
