In an odd announcement that came from the Department of Justice on Monday, federal officials now are requiring that firearms retailers certify that they are selling gun safes, or similar products.
The DOJ explained its new rule is "to help enable the safe and secure storage of firearms" and "implements the existing Gun Control Act requirement that federal firearms licensees that sell firearms to the general public must certify that they have available secure gun store or safety devices."
Merrick Garland, the attorney general, cast the rule in the light of gun safety.
"We will continue to take all appropriate steps to help reduce the number of people killed and injured by the misuse of firearms," he said.

can they meet the requirement with a catalog or dropship items on website?
“certify that they are selling gun safes, or similar products”
What’s a “similar product”? How about a suitcase with a combination lock?
Unconstitutional on its face. It won’t stand.
Guess it could depend on the daffynition of “similar devices”. Does that include the trigger locks that seem to be included with every new firearm these days. I know some folks have a pretty big collection of those.
Most gun shops already sell these.
So the feds now get to decide what products someone has to sell? The insanity just goes on & on...
Most owners have a small stash of them they don't use.
It will craate a new underground. If there is a drug ‘underground’... there will CERTAINLY be a weapons underground...count on it!
Constitutional? Bwahahahahaha. No one thinks the doh-J or CONgress care one whit about that old thing anymore. Just watch the daily proceeding in the house and senate to see that.
Which meds you must take? We decline politely. For now.
Yep!
So they keep one safe in the corner with a $5,000 price tag. ๐
Yes sir. Criminals are known to carefully secure their guns for safety when they are not out robbing and killing.
Pretending to do something to make a press release.
Yes sir....... we sell gun safes. Order today delivery will be on Friday.
I could use a new anchor for the canoe that perpetually seems to roll over in the middle of the lake. A gun safe should foot the bill.
A safe is for the extras that aren’t out and handy.
(1) Secure Gun Storage. The Act amended section 923(d)(1) of title 18, United States Code, to require that, with certain exceptions, applicants for Federal firearms dealer licenses certify the availability of secure gun storage or safety devices at any place where firearms are sold under the license to nonlicensees. 18 U.S.C. 923(d)(1)(G). The certification requirement does not apply where a secure gun storage or safety device is temporarily unavailable because of theft, casualty loss, consumer sales, backorders from a manufacturer, or any other similar reason beyond the control of the licensee.
and
(34)The term โsecure gun storage or safety deviceโ meansโ (A)a device that, when installed on a firearm, is designed to prevent the firearm from being operated without first deactivating the device; (B)a device incorporated into the design of the firearm that is designed to prevent the operation of the firearm by anyone not having access to the device; or (C)a safe, gun safe, gun case, lock box, or other device that is designed to be or can be used to store a firearm and that is designed to be unlocked only by means of a key, a combination, or other similar means.
Um, I can neither confirm or deny the veracity of that comment. Although, I do know of one that is locked in a compartment in someones truck. The other one in the truck isn’t.
Simple....I would put up a sign in my shop or online websales page that banners “We can order gun safes, trigger locks and other safety devices - ask us how!”
