Actually, it’s always been about the illusion that the voters decide until Trump shocked the establishment by winning the Republican primary followed by destroying Hillary in the general election.
Ever since then they have been struggling, scheming and conniving for a way to bring Trump and his supporters to heel.
The very idea that the voters have minds of their own is unacceptable to the ruling class.
