Maybe I’m off base but I suspect the plan is to get Liz Cheney the nomination, but having her as the only Never Trumper running, then having the more “Trump Friendly” candidates split the vote. Just something to watch out for.

Right. I think most Republican politicians resented Trump for coming out of nowhere and winning in 2016. They thought it was their turn.
So they hated him the whole time he was POTUS, but a lot of them (like Pence) had to put on an act that they supported him.
Then as soon as the 2020 election was stolen, they all showed their true colors and stabbed him in the back.
Everyone knows the Democrats were pissed about 2016, but what a lot of people don’t realize is that most of the Republican politicians were pissed too.
Trump was an outsider and nobody in DC wants an outsider.
