True he has honored Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, , BB King, Freddie King, Albert King, Hubert Sumlin, Buddy Guy and many other black artists and personally paid for Howlin’ Wolf’s funeral and headstone.
He saw to it a distant and possibly not genuine relative of Johnson got royalties while the Rolling Stones fought it in court. Gave credit to artists of original songs while Led Zeppelin and Stones refused (until Willie Dixon won a big lawsuit for one case).
Muddy Waters in particular told him he is going to depend on Clapton’s promise to keep the blues alive “Because all of us old timers are dying off, one by one and we’ll be gone.”
He kept the blues alive with Crossroads while a tiny percentage of younger black people cared at all. Most refuse to acknowledge their blues heritage.
By Crossroads I mean the annual big concert festival of old and young blues artists on DVD and CD and streaming for a decade or more.
I was a kid still when I saw EC. He was in a show with Carlos Santana in Denver. (1973? I had the ticket stub for a long time but finally lost it.) I was a fan of his then because GEORGE HARRISON.
His contribution to the blues art form cannot be denied. (That being said, that scarcely makes him a good candidate for medical advice-giver.) Keep in mind he’s a junkie (no matter how many years he’s been clean). It’s a low, low lifestyle. But, haha, that doesn’t disqualify him from being a blues musick legend. (Robt Johnson died at age 21-22 from high living and being a skank.)
Someone else on this forum said “You can’t get unvaccinated.” Sorry he had to learn the hard way not to trust the Medical Gestapo.
