I used to buy Penzey spice all the time, but after his first deflamatory and irrational rant (about 5 years or so ago), I looked elsewhere. I found Spice House, which actually has better flavored and fresher spices and at a better price.
The Spice House was started back in 1957 by Bill Penzey Sr. and his wife. It then went to Penzey Jr.’s sister and her husband, Tom Erd. They preferred to keep the company apolitical. The company was more recently sold to a couple fellows outside the family. It seems Penzey Jr (the vile guy) began his own spice ventures after college.
