GRAND FORKS — When state Rep. Rick Becker announced his retirement from the Legislature last month, it had the ring of a farewell. The Bismarck Republican wrote an editorial about passing the legislative torch; it seemed likely that the rest of his 2022 might mark a transition into private life.
Not anymore. This weekend, Becker announced he’s entering the race for the U.S. Senate, challenging incumbent Republican and ex-governor John Hoeven for one of the highest seats in North Dakota politics.
The move sets up a long-shot challenge against one of the state’s most invincible politicians. Hoeven, who was elected governor in 2000, has a history of winning general elections in landslides, and starts the year with a $3 million war chest, according to federal filing data. Becker, though a presence in Bismarck since his 2012 election, formed his federal fundraising committee on Sunday, records show.

Hoeven is an Amnesty Senator.
We cannot keep re-electing people who want to give away the country.
It makes this North Dakotan happy to see a challenger to Senator Milquetoast. Hoeven knows his job is secure for life so long as he doesn’t make any waves. Unfortunately, the times we are in call for bolder men.
