Supreme Court Rejects NYC Teachers’ Religious Exemption Appeal Over Vax Mandate

The Supreme Court on Friday shot down an appeal from a group of New York City school teachers who sought to block a COVID-19 vaccine mandate, arguing it violated their religious freedom.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor rejected the emergency appeal on Friday, the same day as the deadline for city employees to comply with the mandate or face losing their jobs.

Sotomayor did not offer an explanation, which is the court’s usual procedure.

The appeal was filed Tuesday by 15 Department of Education workers, who claimed the city was violating their religious freedoms by not accepting their exemption claims.

The city requires that religious exemption requests must be backed up by religious leaders. For example, the teachers said the city would not accept an exemption from Catholics because Pope Francis had urged his flock to get their shots.

The appeal came after numerous objections to former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s vaccination mandate for teachers had been struck down. The city did bow to the teacher’s union to allow exemptions for medical or religious reasons.

Mayor Eric Adams said this week he would go ahead with terminating nearly 4,000 of the city’s roughly 400,000 municipal employees who had not been inoculated against the coronavirus.

Time for these people to drop their Catholic affiliation and just call themselves “Christian”. Can’t source it back to a corrupt head.

What really screwed up is they are trying to say you have to prove yourself.

In other words you have to go to a church to be religious (which is false), and if you church Pastor confirms it, well then then the church probably will lose their 501c3 status.

What utter B.S.

I would convert.

Again, why isn’t “Because I don’t wish to be injected!” good enough? Would maria have rejected that as well? It appears that not every scotus jurist is the sharpest knife in the cupboard.

If I were to sue, I’d do on the grounds the vaccines available are still experimental and the FDA failed to follow their regulations on approving the vaccines that aren’t available. I’d also sue on the grounds the vaccines don’t stop transmission and are high risk for certain classes of people.

This might be their religious sign that it’s time to stop working for the Beast..

And expecting the Beast to correct its tyranny by appealing to other like minded tyrants seems like putting ones faith in the Beast that it enjoyed riding for awhile

Yep. She acted unilaterally.

Since this was a request for an emergency stay, she could have either acted alone (which she did) or forward it on to the other Justices. She acted alone.

New York City attempts to cut payroll without having to pay these folks out.

These agencies that have threatened termination and loss of pension are going to have a brutal time hiring in the future since it's clearly a mercenary operation. New hires know the "work now - pension later" model is dead.

These failed blue cities and states will attempt to contract companies to provide teachers.

Injustice Sotomayor violated these teachers’ rights when she alone rejected their religious exemption. ALL mandates were null and void the moment Congress exempted themselves and their staffs.
