The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) announced Thursday that it plans to sue the federal government over its decision to invoke the Emergencies Act in response to ongoing protests and blockades.
"Emergency powers cannot and must not be normalized," said CCLA executive director Noa Mendelsohn.
She said use of the act "seriously infringes on the Charter rights of Canadians."

"Protest is how people in a democracy share their political messages of all kinds, whether they be environmental activists, students taking to the streets, Indigenous land defenders, workers on strike, people who know that Black lives matter, and others who oppose government measures of all kinds," Mendelsohn said.
"Not every person may agree with the content of every movement."

In a statement released Thursday, Amnesty International also expressed concerns about the act, saying in a French news release that it "raises concerns and questions relating to the respect of human rights."

The sad part is I had actually think if that is something they legitimately said. The ACLU has so much potential to do the right thing, however, it is unfortunately run by communists.
If they were true to their name, which we all know they are not, they would have been one of the first people to sue over the vaccine mandates, vaccine passports, mask mandates, etc.
Nonetheless, matt04, they deserve our approbation for what they are doing now.

The Supreme Court of Canada is full of left wing liberals whose elitism was inherited from the Bristish colonial tradition. The Justice system assumed the mantle of colonial superiority and tweeked it ever so slightly to replace it entirely with elitist closet Marxists and Socialists.
No way this Civil Liberties Case against the Emergency Act will succeed, but they have to do it anyway, go through the motions.
The sweaty, hairy, dancing, beer swilling FREE TRUCKERS from Canada’s transportation frontier are too conservative they are family people, they are mostly devout Christians who know right from wrong, they are generally anti-abortion, and they also believe that women should stay home to mother their children.All of that guarantees their denigration by Trudeau who would not even meet with the Truckers, they are just foul , dirty offal of a former world Truceau wants us all to transcend into every lasting Utopia, but like all Utopias, they become abject mandalas of genocide, injustice and suffering but for the elite that imposes it.
Altogether these Trcukers are offensive to the socialist reconstuction, the socialist-globalist Utopia thet men like Pierre Trudeau experience in their wet dreams, and want to impose on Canada. Of course the Supreme Court of Canada will help Trudeau in his work of defilement of Canada, they are cut from the same Marxist cloth.
So what will the Freedom Truckers represent to Canada, to its history? If you take on the federal government there will not be any redress communication or reresemtation. Trudeau and the government of Canada have created a new class of negritos. Its a pattern throughout our history...the new boogieman is the Trucker, dehumanized 24/7 by the CBC, the former boogiemen were 1st Nations Canadians , whose children are being carefully discovered and acknowledged now in mass genocidal graves throughout Canada, back then all quietly perpetated at the behest of the Federal Government and the Roman Catholic Church. Now Trudeau continues that pattern , dehumanoizing a whole class of people who are his citizens.
Now Canada has its new class of minority. Freedom Truckers. Will we have reconciliation for their descendants in say , another 50 years? Or will we have an armed guerilla movement working to unseat the Federal Government across Canada? It would begin in Alberta and Quebec;both provinces are over tired of these federal machinations in our history, and some are enraged by the Injustice, the human denigration, the supercilious, elitist attituude of liberals like Trudeau,the public threats to remove the Trucker’s children and put them into foster care irretrievably, using the Marxist Social Services of Ontario. Trudeau will be hated long after he is gone, and hated very strongly indeed.The seeds of such hatred are now sown, well watered and sprouting already.
