So they can go nuts if Republicans win the mid-terms. Then it’s back to the “mostly peaceful” protesting they endorse. They’re looking ahead.
Some libs and leftists are smart enough to realize that this repression could turn against them some day.

They do not want the protest to reach the point where Castro’s little bleep is forced to resign and/or his party loses control.
So they can safely virtue signal after the protest has been shut down.

The New York Times knows the power of white liberal 'elites' is propped up by the violent easily manipulated parts of the black community.
And white elite power propped up by the power of 'black (un-elected) leaders' who haven't lived in the black community for so many decades they actually believed black community members wanted to de-fund the police. (talk about out-of-touch tools of white elites...)
Without the ability for white liberal 'elites' to send the criminal and gullible parts of black community into the streets to bully traditional black citizens - and frighten white citizens - the 'plantation lock' democrats have on blacks is broken.
That's why it matters to them.
(If there wasn't fear of their pets and power being threatened the New York Times would be happy to have the truckers, their families and their dogs shot and left to die on the streets of Ottawa. Yes, they hate us)
Perhaps even the committed leftists at the New York Times are smart enough to realize that normalizing the use of authoritarian measures like seizing bank accounts will be used against them at some point.
Trudeau just normalized the idea of the government seizing the bank accounts of people protesting against them. Can you imagine what the left would do if the next conservative US president seized the assets of MoveOn.org, the Tides Foundation, BLM, the DNC, and the thousands of associated PACs and non-profits they have?
They have just barely enough presence of mind to provide some top cover for their history of full throated support for the “mostly peaceful” arson, vandalism, looting, assaults and murder of BLM and Antifa.
Still, I’m sure that this one caused considerable argument and hand wringing in NYT newsroom.
Must be a planning a new BLM protest.
