Utterly false logic, of course.

Teachers have a captive audience.

Utterly false logic, of course. Teachers have a captive audience.

That's a good point. Some other points:

  1. Free speech doesn't apply to employees when they are at work. This is a point that the lefties always make when a conservative gets fired, like Kurt Schilling who holds conservative views on gay marriage. In fact conservatives like Schilling get fired for holding views that they never expressed during work, and the lib cretins think that's fine too. Yet all of a sudden a teacher is permitted to say whatever they want when they are on the clock apparently. It's Orwellian.
  2. The teachers didn't decide on their own to teach the stuff that the laws are stopping anyway. It is something they were told to teach as part of a curriculum. Thus they aren't exercising their free speech anyway when they teach that garbage. Most of them may agree with it but that's beside the point.
  3. If a teacher wants to talk against CRT or whatever, they won't be permitted to. The same cretins who are allegedly in favor of free speech for teachers would be the ones who would want the teacher fired, justifying it on the grounds that employees don't have free speech when at work.

The “more speech to counter bad speech” argument advanced at the beginning of the article also fails when only one side of the argument is permitted in the classroom. This is, of course, is due to “safety” considerations for oppressed and endangered communities (student and teacher).

So your captive audience is already in a suppressed speech environment and one deliberately created for the purpose of indoctrination, not education. Nor is the situation some accidental, unintended consequence. It is deliberate. And that is demonstrated by how strongly examination of instructional material and actual classroom instruction is being resisted.

The article is just another installment in that resistance.
