In a video from Ottawa, a broadcaster stares at the camera in silence as protesters surround him and scream expletives, calling him a liar and bellowing "freedom."
Near the U.S. border in Surrey, B.C., a cameraman's equipment is shoved off his shoulder and two men spit on him. A demonstrator follows another journalist closely, yelling that he is a "disgusting, filthy human being," while police escort the reporter through a jeering crowd.
Experts and advocates say the treatment of journalists, captured in many cases on video, during recent protests against public health measures should be a wake-up call.

The experts and advocates should, indeed, wake up. But they insist that they are purely innocent of bias and lying. The alarm they want is not for them, but for the people who no longer believe them.
I really love the idea of another “experts say” piece being written as defense. Journalism is dead. These people are worse than stupid, they’re dangerous.
They’re response to this to beef up security??? How about just reporting the news objectively? These people are dangerous.
These “journalists” lie about and demonize these people, then act like the victims when these people aren’t nice to them. Shocker!!!

Well…assaulting the media on live TV is probably not a winning idea.
There used to be a saying that it was unwise to get into a battle of words with a newspaper that buys ink by the barrel.
The same is true with live broadcasters with a worldwide audience. There is never a reason to assault someone in that situation.

You would think after Covid, the experts say line would have lost its freshness and if it's seen as punchy it's only to the groin.
Like other searches for the truth the only use of experts is to present and argue out the facts so the rest of us can draw our own conclusions. Now, when we hear experts say we presume they are just lying.
