With major crime up 34%, 95 more cops walk out the door; CPD is losing cops at “unsustainable” rate, alderman says

February 24, 2022 CWBChicago Citywide

One month ago, we reported that CPD statistics showed reports of major crimes were up 24% in the first three weeks of the new year compared to the same time last year.

How have things improved since then? They haven’t. Major crime reports are now up 34%, with all seven categories showing increases: murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery, aggravated battery, burglary, theft, and motor vehicle theft. That’s according to CPD’s internal CompStat report dated February 20.

Crime reports this year are also ahead of the same point in 2020 and 2019, when COVID was not a factor.

But not everything is going up. The number of cops on the city’s police force is going down. Chicago lost 95 more officers in January, according to the city’s inspector general (OIG). CPD had 11,805 officers as of February 1. It started last year with 12,679 and had 13,353 in January 2019.

“Where are we gonna be in three years?” Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) asked on a recent networking Zoom call attended by former Chicago journalist Rafer Weigel. “It’s unsustainable.”

CPD “can’t recruit fast enough,” Hopkins reportedly said.

Last month, John O’Malley, the deputy mayor for public safety, delivered sobering news to a group of Lakeview residents.

“I can tell you there is a significant, almost alarming reduction in the number of police officers in the city of Chicago,” O’Malley said, pointing to retirements and “a very hard struggle right now to recruit and retain officers.”

Throughout the U.S. this is happening. The good, veteran police officers are getting out and any recruits found are generally either, nuts, not very smart, are previous recruits that had been rejected as unqualified.

“We have officers with 15 years on the job, 20 years on the job, walking into human resources in the Chicago Police Department, turning in their badges, and walking off the job. I’ve never seen that before. It’s happening.”

Lakeview Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) echoed O’Malley’s concerns and suggested the quality of incoming officers may be lacking.

“There’s more retirements than recruits, and we’re diluting, in my opinion, the quality of people taking the [CPD hiring] exam and ultimately getting into the police department,” Tunney said.

How about filling those new openings by the mass-recruitment of hoodlums and thugs (like "Pete" and "Dim" of "A Clockwork Orange")?

Would also go a long way to achieving the much-vaunted "racial equity" Biden is constantly touting!

Regards,

When you favor the criminals over the police then you will soon have more criminals and less police. Enjoy the world you have created.

Credit Obama and Holder - all part of the plan

They created the “defund the police” as an overriding political narrative. They assisted and nurtured BLM as a political street-muscle - their “brownshirts.”

That murders are spiking in black Chicago - acceptable and part of the plan

The goal is total Federal and political control of local police forces under the DOJ and Fed.gov. They’ve basically achieved that.

In many places, police morale has plunged and retirements and resignations have soared. A June survey of nearly 200 departments by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), a nonprofit think tank, shows a startling 45% increase in the retirement rate and a nearly 20% increase in resignations in 2020-21 compared to the previous year.

“We are in uncharted territory right now,” PERF’s Executive Director Chuck Wexler says. “Policing is being challenged in ways I haven’t seen, ever.”

The exodus is affecting departments large, small and in between. The research group’s survey shows that in the largest departments with 500 hundred or more officers, the retirement rate increased by nearly 30%. Overall, new police hiring has dropped 5%.

Exactly - and when peak demoralization hits - who steps in to take over and create a new system?

CPD “can’t recruit fast enough,” Hopkins reportedly said.

The problem isn't CPD can't recruit fast enough, it's that NO ONE wants to be a Chicago cop!

Oldest Son graduated Western IL University in May 2019 w/Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement, along with about 400+ others with the same degree.

CPD recruited in the Fall of 2018 and again Spring 2019 on campus. ZERO Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement Grad's talked to them. That's right: ZERO.

“The goal is total Federal and political control of local police forces under the DOJ and Fed.gov. They’ve basically achieved that.”

Exactly.

Three more years left for the current White House regime at least.

The Democrat plan is to “Gettir Done”

“Under the guise of “restoring trust” between communities and police departments that have been militarized by the federal government, the Obama administration’s Justice Department announced this month that it had selected six U.S. cities to serve as pilot sites, to develop and deploy federal guidance for local police….”

Major crime up 34%?

That's really reported crime, which just might be a lot less than the actual rate of crime.

A few years back, a retired LEO told me that some major cities and even states are experts at low-balling the crime numbers.

And, with fewer LEOs, the corresponding responses would be less than actual anyhoo.

The DOJ is basically America’s KGB. It the political brain and nerve center of Fed.gov. It approves and vets all political schemes, using American “lawfare.” That which it doesn’t approve - it tracks, monitors and arrests via the FBI.

The real problem?. . No fathers and too many “baby daddies” with their fat hood sows pumpin out feral off-spring while exponentially forming the next generation of gang-bangin criminals. . .all the while black “culture” exalts/promotes that very behavior. . .and its phony baloney race hustling preachers line their pockets and fool the people into supporting the very politicians that suck them dry. . . but I guess that’s just me being a white supremacy racist. . .never mind.

The "work now - pension later" model is dead for these blue city governments.

The politicians threw their own police under the bus because the cities are bankrupt. That cost-cutting model only works when you can outsource the jobs which you can't when it comes law enforcement, at least for patrol.

This kind of $#*+ tends to happen when a cop is more likely to be prosecuted with getting a little rough with an actual criminal than a criminal is for committing an actual crime.
