Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for at least the 2022 season after gambling on games in 2021.
The NFL released a statement Monday announcing his suspension, saying he gambled on games over a five-day stretch in November 2021 when he was on the non-football injury list to address his mental health.
Ridley stepped away from football on Halloween, saying he needed to get his personal life in order.
In a series of tweets Monday after the suspension was announced, Ridley said he bet $1,500 total and that "I don't have a gambling problem." He also tweeted that he couldn't even watch football at the time he made the bets. He added that he's just going to "be more healthy when I come back" and that "I know I was wrong But I'm getting 1 year lol."
The NFL determined that Ridley placed multilegged parlay bets involving three, five and eight games that included the Falcons to win via his mobile device out of state, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Pete Rose was kicked out permanently for doing that.
Why is he getting lite treatment?
And ‘LOL’ing about it?
I read an interesting book “Slow Getting Up” by an NFL guy who was a special teams player on the margin and typically with a different team each year.
They would have groups that take 15 grand each in cash (this was years ago) go to Vegas and drink and gamble until they were out of dough and go home.
Any guesses on how much the suspension will be reduced once the media and the race baiters harp on Ridley being black and unfairly singled out?
Why suspend him? It’s not like he was running an illegal dogfighting ring.
#1 rule for any pro sports league - thou shalt not bet on your own sport.
Anyone betting on his own team shall be suspended for life (see Pete Rose).
As far as I know he has not killed multiple people with a knife. Lets keep things in perspective. We are talking about an NFL football player. /s
No, the NFL puts players who stab multiple people to death in the hall of fame. (See Ray Lewis).
They actually do, you just need to be in class to learn it.

Yep, hasn’t been a banner few months for ‘Bama wide receivers.
Wow, he puts the “self” in self-destructive.
If he had only murdered someone he would be fine.
I see what you did there.
Rose bet on his team he was managing. He had control of who was playing, plus he was the manager. Plus, I think he was persistent. So far, they only knew Ridley made $1500 of bets, when he wasn't even with the team.
And not for nothing, one was NFL, one was MLB. MLB is probably more sensitive to gambling, because a World Series was fixed.
What era?
Maybe more to do with mental illness, than race.
