As proven by Ronald Reagan. And Trump was in several movies himself, before starring in his own successful realty TV show that lasted 15 seasons. Choosing Presidents who have lived their entire life as professional politicians on the taxpayers dime, like the current resident of the White House, has been sketchy at best.

[How many kneepads did Cavanaugh wear out writing this hagiography?]
In his defense, Yanukovich scampered off to his master in Moscow rather than face an election he was likely* to lose. Zelensky could have left for Europe. That he chose to stay is a miracle. Zelensky completely demolished the longstanding image of the craven, money-grubbing Jew prevalent in much of that region for probably the last thousand years. And his halachically Jewish mayor of Kiev, wealthy celebrity and world-famous boxer, Klitschko *also* stayed. This is someone with options, and he stayed.
* His party went from 1/3 to 1/10 of the vote, so he would have lost his presidency. And probably been prosecuted and imprisoned for his shoot to kill orders.

Amen. We had an actor as the greatest President of my lifetime. And not just for US, but for much of Europe.

Agree. Reagan was one of our greatest presidents, and Bedtime for Bonzo was good-natured fun.
And Trump shorning McMahon's hair in WWE.

“A Llincoln, a Clemenceau, a Roosevelt, Churchill”, a Chamberlain, a Biden.
So you are equating comedian Zelensky with a statesman?

If I were gay for anyone, it would be Putin. He’s an impressive character, in the mold of the conquerors of old. Real big picture guy with the vision to try to stick out in an era of risk-averse politicians whose horizons end with a cushy retirement. In an earlier age, he’d be out there with his men (to prevent his generals from getting any ideas), conquering all before him. If he wins this, he’ll become something less than Vladimir the Great, but something more than pretty much any Russian luminary in the last century except for Stalin.
My issue with Putin isn’t personal. It’s probably similar to Trump’s. By acquiring Ukraine’s 45m population, Russia becomes more dangerous to the US. If the US and the EU each took in half that number, Russia’s conquest would become meaningless. Russia has plenty of land. It’s Ukraine’s population that it needs - for the military conquests to come.

I’m not trying to denigrate Zelensky. But the article lays it on a bit thick. With a trowel.

It was surprising that he was willing to Ukrainian cities destroyed rather than give up power. There isn’t much of that kind of resolve around these days.

A far better choice than a senile, incontinent Senator.

Like I said, I’m skeptical. But in the chaos that is wartime Ukraine, people are looking for something they can cling to. Zelensky isn’t much, but maybe he’s enough. And he’s certainly more than Yanukovich managed.
