Israeli social worker.. had a flash of historic vertigo.. ancestors had lived in Chisinau more than a century ago, surviving a devastating pogrom in 1903 before emigrating to what became Israel. Now their descendant had returned .. this time not as a victim, but as a rescuer. “It’s like a closure for me,” .. from Jerusalem who had come to help evacuate thousands of Jewish refugees from Ukraine to Israel. “At the time, it was almost a shame to be Jewish.. Now people want to show they are Jewish so they can be evacuated.” Today.. the context is radically different — cathartically for the many Israelis who have come here to join the relief effort.

More than 2,000 Ukrainians have already been airlifted.., nearly 500 of whom have at least one Jewish grandparent..
Jewish Agency.. non-profit .. operates in coordination with Israeli Govt., assists Jews .. waiting in European countries to organize their emigration. Israeli aid .. Hatzalah .. IsraAID .. at border crossings to provide medical & psychological support, to Jews and non-Jews alike, .. provide temporary housing...

My great grandparents on both sides of my family also came from Ukraine in 1880.
Jews had to leave because they were treated very poorly at that time. I think if you check the history of where a lot of Jewish families came from it was called the area known as the pale of settlement.

First wife’s family both sides were Ukrainian Jews, came over separately when Ukraine got caught in the middle of the red/white civil war and met in Philly, so son is 1/2.

I am 50% Ukrainian Jewish via my maternal grandparents who came here 1903 or so. My other 50% is Polish Jewish. So I am definitely rooting for Ukraine here with Putin’s invasion.
That 40 mile Russian convoy that has stalled out? I think and hope that the Russian conscripts there are sabotaging the trucks, tanks and weaponry. They don’t want to fight and get hurt for nothing but a stupid Putin war.
I just think that the Oligrach targeting, first by Biden, now by UK, is a political propaganda stunt to show something is done. It did not, does not have any affect on Putin who understands only force.
Given all that, I was never for any wars. I pray, prayed for peace and my heart goes out seeing innocent non combatant Ukranians hurt, killed, flee...
