Russian anger against Vladimir Putin is growing as frustrated shoppers are faced with empty shelves and thousands are arrested in antiwar protests.
The Kremlin is desperately trying to crack down on any dissent to the brutal invasion of Ukraine and a total of 13,500 demonstrators have now been arrested since the war was waged.
Anti-Putin sentiment is also hitting the high street with consumers told to limit the number of items in their shopping baskets as sanctions start to bite.
-snip-
There are suggestions that some groceries are already being rationed by Vladimir Putin who is anticipating a prolonged period without the normal influx of Western goods and money.
Major retailers such as Zara, H&M, Ikea and many others have also suspended sales in Russia, closing their doors in many shopping centres in the capital Moscow.
The world's top fashion houses such as Gucci, Prada, Dior and Fenti also shut from Monday.

Will no one rid men of this pernicious prince?.................
I’m not sure the average Russian cares whats on the shelf at Louie Vitton...but ok.
Oh no, Dior is closed!
But seriously, if it turns out the Russian soldiers refuse to fight in this invasion, what can Putin do? Line them up and shoot them for mutiny?
Protesters in Russia are risking their lives. They deserve respect.
The thing that’s got the Russkis pissed off most of all is that the Hollowoodies won’t let them see the new Batman movie. LOL.
Will just take a little time to get their economic block with China and India completed and ramped up to full speed.
Then the goods will flow - they just will not be Western brands anymore. I have a feeling contingencies were already in place for such economic warfare.
Because a KGB agent would never entertain executing his own people to make a point?
Actually... That sounds exactly like what he’d do.
“Of the 12,7000 demonstrators believed to have been arrested”
*****
Only believed by people who believe what the Daily Mail says all the time. No reference for where they got the arrest numbers.
The pictures for the protests only show a few people. Probably paid protests like they do here in the US.
Agitprop
Not enough are protesting. In the Captive Nations before the Wall fell there were almost a million people protesting in cities like Prague. It will take those kinds of numbers to make a difference in Russia.
Daily Mail has gone full propaganda. Never go full propaganda.
13,000 arrested? New labor pool for Nike.
Aeroflot shutting down international ops today because they worried about having the airplanes seized by their owners. They plan on stealing them. They have a work force of 30,000 and I would guess most are out of jobs.
Oh noes! Not Gucci!
Good point. He probably would. And then what would come next.
Sure, they tend to believe their own propaganda. Many were shocked by the development early on, but after the sanctions started to pile up pollsters say 82% now believe the West is to blame and support the operation.
Too messy. Polonium in the salad works just as well.
“The world’s top fashion houses such as Gucci, Prada, Dior and Fenti also shut from Monday.”
Just virtue signaling from elite retailers. Other than the Uber wealthy, I can’t imagine that Russians care about the closure of “fashion houses” because things like clothes, purses, make-up or jewelry can’t be eaten, fuel your car, keep your electricity on, or heat your home.
What is the point of your lies and propaganda? Canada threatens to intercept Russian-flagged planes. Why should they leave Russia? There is a legal loophole now. They can’t leave under Russian flag, and can’t be repossessed by the owners because once not under the Russian flag they can’t take off in Russia either. Leasing payments are blocked by sanctions so you can consider the planes as a gift to Russia.
