Republican leaders face threat of revived Freedom Caucus in GOP-led House (media clutches pearls)

Former President Donald Trump's most loyal allies in Congress have been relegated to the political wilderness for the past few years. Now they're plotting their comeback.

With the growing likelihood that Republicans will take over the House after elections this fall -- and the prospect of Trump running for president again in 2024 -- members of the Trump-loving House Freedom Caucus are preparing to flex their muscles in the next era. Under the new leadership of Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, the group is hoping to use its hardline tactics, connections to Trump and friendlier relationship with GOP leadership to bend their party to their will and put their MAGA-like stamp on the conference.

One Freedom Caucus co-founder and Trump acolyte, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, is already in line to wield the coveted House Judiciary Committee gavel -- and all the subpoena power that comes with it.

Another caucus member is vying to lead the House Homeland Security Committee next year. The conservative crew is also pressing GOP leaders to tap a Freedom Caucus lawmaker for the House Intelligence Committee, which became ground zero for some of the most heated and partisan battles during the Trump administration. And it's entirely possible that a caucus member runs for a seat at the leadership table, especially if there are any open positions.

We need as much extremism as possible. No half measures.

We'll be lucky to get half measures, I've seen this comedy/drama play before. And that assuming we survive the current crises.

There are 211 R’s in the House.

Only 29 of them in the HFC.

That’s a pitiful 14% of Republican congressmen.

What else is there to know about the GOP than that?

Unfortunately I think the NeoCons will make an attempt to reassert themselves as party leaders because of Ukraine

So, let’s project 25% HFC congresspersons in the next congress, with a healthy overall R-D of 250 to 185 +/-.

That’s 75% of Rs that are squishes, vs a vocal 25% HFCers.

3 to 1 odds ain’t good, but passion, conviction, truth can go a long way in the era of Biden.

Always follow the money trail.
This is a threat to their grandiose money laundering schemes and “under-the-table” cash flow.

Go back through FR posts from about 8 years ago. The HFC was being trashed here, royally. They fell for Mitch McConnell’s disinformation.

Glad to see FR wised up.

Desantis was a Founding Member. Trump loves them.

If the GOP was truly conservative there would be no need for a House Freedom Caucus.

The GOP is not a conservative party and never will be.

Amen to your statement. House freedom caucus WAS trashed here and of course in msm as radicals. Ugh.

They have guts and we don’t see that from Kevin McCarthy at all. He is the ultimate squish. My guess is the gop e has threatened members of house with removal from committee spots if they join HFC. Bet?
