On the west of Kyiv, he is massing forces together with Chechens and Wagner mercenaries.
On the east of Kyiv, his trying to push his tank divisions to reach the eastern side of the city.
When his forces are in place, then one massive onslaught.
The Ukrainians are prepared to defend Kyiv, however.
It is not out of the question that Ukraine can frustrate Putin from consolidating enough forces through flanking attacks and severing supply lines
If Putin gets his forces in place, lots and lots of young Russian males will die.
Lots of other people will die.
If Putin fails to take Kyiv, then he will seriously negotiate a face-saving settlement.

Retired General David Petraeus, who led the COunterINsurgency (COIN) fight in Iraq, was a champion of new COIN doctrine in the US Army, and later served as CIA Director, recently said the same thing.

I don’t believe any of that, it’s all propaganda and bad propaganda at that. There has no reliable news of the war coming out and I can’t make any sense of what is really going on. Whatever negative stuff they are saying I am inclined to believe the opposite. Putin and his military are not stupid and this campaign was planned very carefully. My guess is it’s going right on schedule with exceptions.
This war has to come to close as we are on the cusp on Planting Season and Ukraine supplies Europe with Wheat, they miss a growing season and Europe will be starving and we will not be able to make up the difference as there will be reduced crop yields this year because of a lack of Fertilizer and other Chemicals, Russia exports 60% of the world’s fertilizer if you didn’t know it.
