A Dunkin’ employee in Tampa, Florida, accused of fatally punching a customer who used a racial slur against him last year, was sentenced to two years of house arrest after pleading guilty to felony battery.
Corey Pujols, 27, was ordered by a Tampa judge on Monday to complete 200 hours of community service and attend an anger management course.
Tampa police said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. May 4 at the Dunkin’ location at 410 S. 50th Street.
According to court records, the customer, Vonelle Cook, 77, who was white, had gone through the drive-thru to order coffee and was angry over the lack of service. While in the drive-thru, Dunkin’ employees had trouble hearing him, and he started to yell at them about poor service.

Yes, but the killer must also attend an anger management course. So its all okay.
Well, it was a “racial slur” for crying out loud. You can’t get more threatening than that! /s
I agree.
The assailant would be given his white privilege
At first I was outraged...”House arrest?! For man slaughter?!”
But now I understand. Killing someone over the n word is fully justified.~sarc
A white guy named “Vonelle?” The “person of color” with a nice Catalan surname like “Pujols?”
This is to teach white people to know their “place”.
What Bull-— . I cannot imagine punching a 77 year old back when I was 27. It would have been MURDER.
44 year old cop's arrest of a 46 year old criminal is a contributing factor in the criminal's death and he gets 22.5 years of PRISON with no possibility of parole for 15 years.
Some animals are just more equal than others.
Murdered a senior-citizen customer in anger by physical violence = community service.
Now see what happens.
If aggrieved people and their families cannot receive justice from the courts, they will seek other solutions to redress their grievances. Recall the opening scene in “The Godfather” as the Sicilian undertaker tells the sad story of his daughter who was beaten and maimed by privlidged boys and when found guilty of this cruel crime, received a “suspended sentence” from the judge. What happened to them in the novel was so disconcerting to Hollywood types that Coppola did not film that scene.
The “senior citizen” was a sex offender, too. Lot of crazy to go around here. I don’t have any sympathy for anybody here.
At first glance I assumed that was just a made up excuse used by the perpetrator.
After reading the article, sounds like the guy deserved a good punch in the face…
I can’t figure out what the legal takeaway here is - is the death penalty appropriate for uttering certain racial slurs, or its appropriate for public demonstrations of white senior agitation?
Uhh. I would have found him not guilty. Cook precipitated the confrontation. Besides the scumbag was a sex offender. Good riddance.
The war against whites continues.
From article “...Employees told Cook, a regular at the establishment, to leave, but he parked his car, walked inside, and was aggressive and verbally abusive toward employees...” and “Cook was a registered sex offender, court records show.”
I’m having a hard time getting worked up about this.
He punched a guy who was baiting him. Punching somebody once is not intent of murder.
Manslaughter.
Got to go to the Graybar hotel.
