All border states should do the same, if not for the state but for the citizens of the United States.

"Aquired..."

Interesting word to use. Makes me wonder if we got permission, paid for them or simply claimed them because they were abandoned for over a year on Texas property and seized as we have a right to do.

Hope it was a seizure and it pisses them off and we go war with them over it. ( NOT JOKING.

...How are the commies going to put a stop to this?

They can't.
It's on private land.

"They have other ways to get more."

Maybe the landowners donating easement could buy and the state reimburse. Yes, there are ALWAYS other ways to get more.

Declare it all a “wildlife preserve” and arrest trespassers, charge them with the crime, and then deport them.

“So how many miles will they be able to build with the limited supply they were able to get?”

“The article says 2.”

Texas allocated a billion dollars in their current annual budget to build border wall (probably 50 or more miles worth). They say they plan to keep funding next year as well.

Getting some materials at discounted rates is helpful, but the amount is still small, as a percentage of their Program. 50 miles worth is still small, compared to the total Texas/Mexico border (~1,250 miles), but it is a strong help in heavily trafficked urban/semi-urban areas.

The area around the Eagle Pass border crossing is such an area. 5-10 miles of powerful Trump-style barrier would make a huge difference locally.

Good news...

However, better news would be that Texas is deporting all the millions of MIVs in Texas, first...

Environmental lawsuits I would assume.

“What a joke and is strictly an election ploy”

It is small compared to the Trump Program, but it is actually big, compared to average annual Federal border barrier budgets before Trump. Even that is skewed by the brief surge during the Secure Fence Act (Bush-era barrier).

Texas has a billion dollars for barrier in the current annual budget. Because so much design and prioritization was done Federally under Trump, the Texas Program can go efficiently right into mileage, with a lot less overhead.

50-100 well prioritized miles per year is a seriously significant effort (transformative locally), but not enough to really seal the border. If Texas could do only the highest priority miles (not likely because of land acquisition challenges), 200-300 miles would make a pretty profound impact.

$10-20 billion is more like the total cost to achieve full operational control of the Border (from the Gulf to the Pacific), and that would require the Federal Government to be on their toes and fully committed to doing the job, which is beyond the control of Texas.

Nothing like an election coming up to focus your mind on standing up to the promises you made four years ago!

IIRC, Teddy Roosevelt already got a 1 mile wide easement MANY years ago.

the Republicans in the Senate are equally responsible for all the corrupt judges in the federal judiciary. <<

they sure are.... They LOVE to be the “minority” party and the “loyal opposition” fighting for your rights when they know they are going to be outvoted ..... its how they get rich fighting for our rights and always losing!

Talk about job security scheme!!! ...they have to stay in the minority to get elected or their gig is up!
