A Texas rancher who worked with a Mexican drug cartel to smuggle illegal immigrants and weed into the US was slapped with a 38-year prison sentence, prosecutors said.
Cuban citizen Gilberto Morales, 57, coordinated with a cartel out of Porvenir, Chihuahua to smuggle immigrants and more than a ton of marijuana a month across the Rio Grande through his ranch in Fort Hancock, 40 miles east of El Paso, according the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.

Under the Constitution the US government has no duty to protect the borders of any of the States except in time of war.
But the Democrats of course tell us that the States themselves are not aloud to do it.
Biden Inc. has been opportunistic where US foreign policy and aid money can be leveraged. Result: Joe Biden is president while his brother & drug addled spawn are walking free. OTOH, a Texas rancher attempts to make some money in an area where domestic policy with respect to the border is in disarray. Result: 38 years in the federal pen — which is what should happen.

I guess it is in there to limit centralised government. But seems to me to sow the seed for the nation’s destruction.
At the time of the drafting of the constitution there was no Texas, New Mexico, Arizona or California and hence no border with Mexico.
Canada was sparsely populated.
Our borders need little protection. State militias were more than enough to deal with incursions.
The Indian tribes were our greatest military challenge until the War of 1812.
