Texas and Arkansas were part of the Louisiana Territory at one time. Lots of towns with French names that are no longer pronounced the way their settlers did, I imagine. Nawlins and Battin Roozh being prime examples.

Time was the Sr. Editor of even the smallest, most Podunk paper in the country would’ve had an aneurysm at a “headline” like this one. “Back When” no headline was EVER to be a complete sentence; rarely even a complete clause. Part and parcel of the work of a headline was to induce you to READ THE F’N ARTICLE!
Well, when 2/3 of the article is in the headline, da Hell’s the point??? We’ve got half the world running around thinking they know what’s happening because they scanned the headlines, when they’re actually the most UN-informed “informed” body of humanity EVER.

I don’t know the specifics of this case, but you think it would be really hard to get, say a gang of, oh I don’t know, let’s say African American young men, who are already violating laws and killing each other over petty grievances to be told by politicians, teachers and the media that their sad lot in life is all due to white oppression over and over and over again, and them collectively deciding kill whitey would be that far of a bridge to get them to cross?
(You can change the racial makeups, if you like… doesn’t really matter… just using contemporary media narrative here).
