Sounds like you are from the NE. I remember an extended consulting gig in Boston, where one of my colleagues said “You know you've had a good time in Boston when you wake up naked on a pool table in Peabuddy”. I had to look up that spelling.

Or tha Arkan-zuss River in Kansas, not the Ark-un-saw River.
Pronunciation varies all over the country.
