Pronunciation doesn’t mean a whole lot. Ask the people who live in Des Moines, Iowa and compare that to Des Moines, Washington.

... or Bourne MA. Sen. Hiawatha Warren, of Massachusetts is so out of touch she pronounced the town “burn”, when it is pronounced “born”. When Hillary McCankles was running for president, she pronounced Worcester as “wor-chester” when it’s pronounced “woose-ter”.

Sounds like you are from the NE. I remember an extended consulting gig in Boston, where one of my colleagues said “You know you've had a good time in Boston when you wake up naked on a pool table in Peabuddy”. I had to look up that spelling.

Or How-stun, (Houston) New York versus Hew-stun, Texas.

Here in Oregon we also have the Ill-in-noise River, not the Ill-in-noy River.

Or tha Arkan-zuss River in Kansas, not the Ark-un-saw River.

Pronunciation varies all over the country.
