Woman in Cambridge is diagnosed with deadly 'eye-bleeding fever' after returning from Central Asia — becoming first British case since 2014

A case of the deadly Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) has been spotted in a woman in England who recently returned from Central Asia.

The unidentified woman was diagnosed with the tickborne disease at Cambridge University Hospitals and has been moved to a specialist unit in London.

She becomes only the third confirmed British case of CCHF, which can cause mood swings, confusion and bleeding in the eyes.

Health chiefs insist the risk to public health is low, as the disease usually transmits through bites from ticks not present in the UK and person to person spread is rare.

It is not clear where the woman had been travelling in Asia, but the UK two previous confirmed cases were imported from Afghanistan and Bulgaria, in 2012 and 2014.

No onward transmission of the disease — which is deadly in up to 40 per cent of sufferers — was detected in those cases.

Dr Susan Hopkins, chief medical advisor at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), said the risk to the public is 'very low'.

Risk may be very low, but I still suggest a two week lockdown to flatten the curve. Within about 2-3 years we should be back to normal.

Somehow they will make sure the risk ratio becomes higher.

I imagine that experts in tropical medicine were very much in demand during the heyday of the British Empire. I bet the NHS still has a larger wealth of knowledge in the field than any other medical establishment.

Kind of the reverse of the tvtrope "Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking."

I’ll be.

There was an episode on the real Magnum PI from the 1980s where Higgins was duped into thinking he had been exposed to
African haemorrhagic fever. I’ve seen the episode a few times and always thought about looking it up to see if there was such a thing.

Many years ago when I was starting my 25 year career at a major hospital part of my job was to regularly consult what was called the ICD-9...which is basically a book that lists every disease known to man.

It was a huge book (hundreds of pages) and one section of it was for fevers and infectious diseases. We used to entertain ourselves reading the thousands of diseases listed. My favorite was Bwamba Fever.

Most guys are used to the mood swings and confusion, but the blood in the eyes only happens just prior to divorce.

Fortunately for us all, Bill Gates and Moderna started working on a vaccine for just this very thing last November. It will be available by Memorial Day and mandatory by the Fourth of July once the media has had the opportunity to incite global panic.

person to person spread is rare.>>>. Let Fauci and company have a go at it. In about 3 months they’ll have another bioweapon unleashed. now that they know how to do it.

LOL!

On a rather more serious note, whenever people talk of their divorces it always renews my dedication to remaining single. Forever.
