Shortages up to now are the result of reduced manpower and restrictions imposed by CovidScare resulting on many items just not getting to the stores to be put on the shelves. Seen it where I live several times. Noticeable lack of restocking on some stuff and scares promulgated by drive time radio causing runs on things like chicken one week, pork the next and then red meat, eggs, milk, etc.

Couple this ongoing debacle with actual shortages of raw food staples like grain and the like and you’ve really screwed the pooch. Meanwhile, the WH has made sure that Xiden will always have freezers full of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and waffle cones.

I am reminded of the woman who tried to buy dog food with food stamps.

When the store said she could not do that, she went back and put steaks in her cart with the words..”I guess my dog can eat THAT!”

I remember the bad old days when a car dealer would take food stamps in place of a down payment.

In 14 months we’ve gone from ”Build Back Better!” to “There’s gonna be food shortages.”

They know they cheated their way into the oval office, so they had to bring the hammer down as hard and as fast as possible.

We could have blocked some of them at the Panama Canal till Jimmy Carter gave it to Torrijos.

Remember the bumper sticker back then...

“JIMMY CARTER! THE BEST PRESIDENT PANAMA EVER HAD!”

Every year the government pays farmers NOT to produce. If we put all of that land into tillage, I think we could take over from Russia as the number one wheat supplier. (There are five total grains, but I don’t think Russia is number one in all of them.)

Russia has already banned exports in order to feed their own people, so the sanctions won’t affect that anyway.

Ukrain is the number five wheat supplier and there has been no planting in Ukraine this year.

Fertilizer is another problem.

As is Ukraine being totally off line.

US cannot make all that up.

The American farmland in the Conservation Reserve Program is minimally productive and does help water quality and such. It is limited to around 25 million acres of well over 900 million acres of farmland.

Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba will get Russian grain and fertilizer. Same for China and these other tinpots. Kim Jung Un may have a legit record harvest this year.

Food shortages. Now that’s something to campaign on in November (along with the border, inflation, Afghanistan, Ukraine, federal debt/spending, crooked Bidens, gasoline, and more).

"My money’s on Soylent Green."

Which is preferred? Carnivore Republicans or Vegan Democrats?

When you consider that grass fed is more popular...

CRP ground isn’t fertilized each year. That means 1st year crops like corn will take much more nitrogen fertilizer than normal to make up the difference.

Also CRP ground will typically be considered Highly Erodible; a low residue crops like soybeans would need to be no-tilled. No-till needs additional herbicides which are also in limited supply this year.

CRP ground also is typically in drought prone areas. There is a moderate/severe drought currently going on across most of the Plain States.

The best the US could do at this stage is open up CRP for grazing and haying. Bringing in millions of acres takes time and supplies, neither of which we currently have. Planting across most of the US is going to be well under way by mid April.
