Washington state plans to ban most non-electric vehicles by 2030, according to a newly signed bill by Gov. Jay Inslee. The bill says that all vehicles of the model year 2030 or later that are sold, purchased, or registered in the state must be electric. “On or before December 31, 2023, the interagency electric vehicle coordinating council … shall complete a scoping plan for achieving the 2030 target,” it reads.
The bill covers a lot of transportation issues in the state and is a part of a larger $16.9 billion transportation package called “Move Ahead Washington,” which Inslee described as a way to create more efficient transportation options.
“Transportation is our state’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. There is no way to talk about climate change without talking about transportation,” Inslee said. “This package will move us away from the transportation system our grandparents imagined and towards the transportation system our grandchildren dream of.”
Also included in the transportation package is funding for four new hybrid-electric ferries, thousands of electric vehicle charging stations, 25 transit electrification projects across the state, as well as free fares for riders 18 and younger on public transportation systems, according to a Medium post the governor wrote on Friday.

That’s why ultimately automakers will phase out ICE vehicles. Now you see the only car that Ford makes nowadays is the Mustang. That is what the future will look like when it comes to ICE vehicles. So if you want to replace your ICE vehicle, the time to buy one would be before 2025.

I predict that most vehicles outside of Seattle will be purchased and registered in surrounding states. If you want, you can get by with an electric golf cart for a vehicle in a large, high population density, urban area. You cannot if you live in a rural, low population density area.
Washington State should be wiped off the face of the map. Oregon and Californication too.
I don’t believe it bans the sale or re-registration of used ICE vehicles but I could be wrong.
The article doesn’t say where all this electrical power will come from. That’s a big problem.
Also how will people afford electric vehicles? The prices just rose this month due to constriction of the nickel supply.
That would explain why they are phasing out internal combustion fuels.
Your vintage F150 might be in excellent shape at turn of 2030, but good luck finding anything to put in the tank.

How about just wiping the progressive west side off the map? We Eastern Washington flyover people would appreciate that
2030 or eight years from now. Do these clowns know how fast 8 years will pass? Remember the attempted cop killer Michael Brown? That was 8 years ago. The movie Interstellar also came out. My point being is that they might as well skip the 8 years and make it today because that’s how prepared people will be, this will be an utter disaster.
