Victory! South Carolina 19th State Legislature to Join Convention of States
Convention of States Action ^ | March 27th 2022

Posted on 03/29/2022 2:24:31 PM PDT by Jacquerie

The South Carolina House of Representatives just voted 64-48 to pass the Convention of States Resolution, making the Palmetto State legislature the 19th to call for a Convention of States to end federal overreach!

The South Carolina Senate voted on March 10 to pass the Convention of States Resolution, and the House voted last year to do the same. But the Senate removed a sunset clause that the House had included. Today’s vote in the South Carolina House was to concur in that change. It ensures that the Resolution will continue to be valid until the required 34 states have passed similar resolutions, thus triggering the Convention.

We also couldn’t have accomplished this historic victory without our amazing legislative sponsors. South Carolina Representative Bill Taylor was the nation’s first legislator to file the Convention of States Resolution back in 2013. His faithful service to the Article V movement is inspiring, and it proves that we still have true statesmen among our state representatives.

While Article V does not require applications to be signed by the governor, our Resolution will now head to Governor Henry McMaster’s desk anyway, due to an unusual procedure in South Carolina. Although it is extra-constitutional, the state does require the governor’s signature for Article V resolutions.

This won’t be a problem. Governor Henry McMaster has already expressed his support, and he may even hold a signing ceremony so that our incredible grassroots and legislative sponsors can receive the recognition they deserve.

Great job, South Carolina!

But, but, but the pantywaists say the convention might run away!

Look around. The Brandon administration is selling us out. Rely on the pubbies in the next congress? LOL.

The US is no longer a representative Constitutional republic.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

You’d have a much better chance of the Democrats adhering to
the rules of Holye, than you would them adhering to the US
Constitution these days. For that matter, a number of the
Republicans are RINOs, and they’d side with anything the
Democrats wanted to do.

Further down that line, is the SCOTUS and it’s dismissal of
the US Constitution at will.

Rather than thinking of those who are very concerned about
this process, you might want to worry about those who have
seen you coming a mile off, and are planning to use your
dismissive attitude against you

I’m for doing something, but it’s legitimate to wonder who is going to appoint the delegates for the convention?

State legislatures will appoint their agents and give them detailed commissions.

By your logic, a convention of the states can do no harm.

Sadly, I have to agree with your observation.

So even if we did execute the process perfectly, they would
still ignore the new amendments?

Hadn’t considered that. Good call...

I agree that it will be pointless to merely reassert Constitutional clauses that have been violated for decades. For instance, if the convention concludes and the states ratify an amendment that repeats to congress that it and it alone may write laws (Article I § 1), then the convention was a worthless exercise. Repetition of existing clauses that support existing means to the desired end (free government) will soon be ignored just like those in the original.

I suggest everyone take a stroll through the Constitution, or at least through the Bill of Rights. How many clauses, Articles, and Amendments are in force?

In broad terms, only two sorts are actually in effect.

First, the hard or structural aspects of our government remain for all to see. For instance, we still have a congress, executive and judiciary. Elections are held every two years. Every state has two senators.

Second are the rights and powers vociferously defended by narrowly focused interest groups. For instance, the NRA and similar organizations stand ready to visit electoral hell on politicians opposed to the right of self-defense.

In contrast, nearly every “soft” structure, right, power or privilege that is not supported and defended at all costs has been practically excised from the Constitution. Enumerated powers are but a memory. The president and judiciary make laws in violation of Article I § 1, etc.

Toward those ends, I trust the delegates will be authorized to address structural, hard amendments, meaning those which redefine our governing institutions.

First and foremost, must be repeal of the 17th Amendment. History has shown that our government remained fairly well within the limits of enumerated and divided powers prior to 1913. A senate of the states ensured that wild democracy would not get out of hand. Until then, prior to 1913, and thanks to a senate of the states, the government of the United States served its desired ends per the Constitution. As an institution derived from a different source than the House of Representatives, a much smaller senate well-served it designed ends. It checked popular passions of the House of Representatives, and provided wise counsel to the president regarding treaties and appointments to high office.

I understand all of this is over the heads JBS acolytes, but thinking people should run with it.

The 17th guaranteed all of the subsequent rot in our government.

Without its repeal, no election alone can save the remains of our once republic.

Imagine if President Trump got aboard and led the COS movement!
