Why any of these people pled guilty is just idiotic. MAKE the state prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Demand a jury. Make full use of due process. Stall, obstruct, countersue, demand ALL evidence before charges are even allowed to stick.
Are there not any decent lawyers out there?
It was their lawyers.. The stinking crooked liberal lawyers..
A few months back I had to go to a lawyer to make a will..
While I was there, I cracked a few jokes about O'biden and some of the other scum that run DC. From his reaction, you would have thought I had thrown battery acid in his face.. In the last meeting we had there was murder in his eyes..
Those lawyers have one tough, tight and mean union. Damn few of them are conservative..
Get another lawyer!
...
Well said, kinda sums things up nicely.
If a group of people threatens you with overwhelming force to perform an action, and you perform that action, did you take that action of your own free will?
This was a Brady Violation in almost all of the cases so far. DOJ knew that people were invited in by the Capital Police and did not tell any of the Defense Attorneys in the previous cases.
It was considered a conspiracy theory by the news media so how would they have known to bring it up in their plea agreement?
I don’t think the DOJ had mentioned it before and it may not applied to the other guy.
“It was a bench trial before a judge who had found another defendant guilty in a different trial. So it’s hard to see a legal tactic in this.”
I don’t know which defendant you are referring to, but there were a couple of bad apples in the crowd who were armed and were videoed assaulting capitol police officers. These were easy prosecutions, so the prosecutors moved them to the front of the line and got a couple of easy wins.
The vast majority of those arrested should be able to beat the charges if they stand firm. However, I can’t put myself in their shoes so I wouldn’t judge them if they take plea deals in order to get their freedom and life back.
This whole thing really disgusts me when I think about how much money, time and resources were wasted to go after these protesters. Especially in contrast to the BLM/Antifa summer of violence.
“Get another lawyer!”
Yeah!
One who’s experienced with “mostly peaceful” insurrections...
:-/
From what I’ve read some of these political prisoners who can’t afford lawyers are at the mercy of the DC public defenders who have in some cases outright told the gulag prisoners that they hate their politics.
Malpractice? Of course, but what is being done about it?
What the heck kind of a Defense Attorney does not listen carefully to their client to get their client’s view of the situation and see how / if it fits other information? It is not like most of these defendants had a long history of dodging the law.
Is hundreds of thousand of dollars worth simple misdemeanor charges?
