If Europe boycotts Russian gas, can Israel meet their needs? - opinion

A senior German minister has called for a discussion about boycotting the import of Russian natural gas in reaction to the alleged atrocities of Russian soldiers in Ukraine. Morally, an absolutely correct stand. It is easy to imagine the discussion, if it takes place when fellow European politicians will point to their countries’ dependence on the importation of oil and natural gas and even coal, yes, coal to the continent in which the Green Deal is its new flagship.

The European Union imported 155 billion cubic meters (BCM) from Russia in 2021. Half of Germany’s imported gas arrives from Russia, 46% in Italy and a quarter in France, the three leading economies of the EU and all members of the G7. Not surprisingly, the EU has not imposed sanctions on the this sector, but the issue has been very high on the agenda.

Following his three summits with the leaders of the EU, NATO and the G7 on March 25, President Biden declared that the US will inject 15 BCM of natural gas to the world market in 2022 with more to come in the future. They will release one million oil barrels a day in the next 6 months from its strategic reserves in an effort to lower supply and price pressures. The president must have had his own country on his mind and its economic indicators showing growing inflation in which rising fuel prices are a key factor.

Israel and Egypt are producers of natural gas and the question is whether they or other east Mediterranean potential producers are relevant to the current situation. Given production capacity, existing supply contracts and conveyance capacity, Israel may have 10 BCM annually to add to Europe’s demand, while Egypt is mostly engaged in its domestic market.

Egypt though becomes a key player if Israel is asked to help mitigate a crisis in Russia’s natural gas supply to Europe, since currently it holds the sole connection for the Israeli gas to Europe. There are two ways to convey natural gas – pump it into pipes or liquefy it, load it on specially built tankers and re-gasify it at the other end, close to the client. The liquefacation of natural gas (LNG), its shipping and regasification require investments of billions of dollars.

more:

“...All these options depend, of course, on the European decision to purchase natural gas from the east Mediterranean. The EU has financed a study of a pipeline from the gas fields of the region to Europe but seems indifferent to this project....”

I wonder how long before we build a pipeline to Europe, there were proposals back in the cold war to have neutrally buoyant pipelines between Iceland to Scotland, Iceland to Greenland, and Greenland to Canada.

They seemed politically out of reach because of cheaper gas and coal was king back then

Hard to believe the Germans actually fell for the false flag “atrocity” events in Ukraine.

Along with many others.

Oil is a fairly fungible commodity. If there are some willing to meet their needs with Russian oil they will likely be able to get a better price since Russia has fewer customers. Which means they will buy as much oil at the better price as possible. Which means they are buying less oil from the sources that serve those that are boycotting Russian oil.

The invisible hand of the market gets around boycotts that are only partial for a fungible commodity.

This question stumbles into what I believe will be the trigger to Ezekiel 38 among other things which constitute the “Hook in the jaws of Gog of Magog”

Put simply, YES!... Israel will end up selling oil and up-ending Russia’s cash cow.

I seek Turkey mending fences with Israel and
the Israeli gas being piped to Turkey and then
fed thru Turkish pipes to EU.

Ras Putin, he gets to see Finland and Sweden join
EU and Nato. Russia will be China’s biggest supplier.
Biden will be impeached and our oil industry will
be back in control of our oil production.

Hunter will go to jail.

Those aren’t false flags.

You really think the Ukrainians killed their own Patriots? Or staged something when the world is watching ?

There is, and has been, a lot of cheating with regard to oil. The Iranians were able to sidestep boycotts imposed on them by undercutting their competitors. Most of the world, with the exception of NATO and American allies in the Pacific Rim like Japan, most countries is not boycotting Russia.

The downside to Russia's invasion of Ukraine is not only driving Finland and Sweden to NATO, but essentially making Russia subservient to China. The proud Soviet Union of Stalin and his successors itself becomes a satellite of China Xi accomplishes what Ghengis Khan did without Chinese blood being shed.

The CHICOMS just backed out of a $500 Billion gas deal with Russia. Why buy the cow when you can buy the milk at discount from a customer desperate cow owner?

Do you have a link for that backing out? Anyways, the CCP wants to pay less. Buy Rooskie gas and oil at the same discounted price that India gets. Don't take it personally Pooty Poot. "It's just business". Obviously the EU was and is paying full freight for Rooskie hydrocarbons. One thing about Rooskie oil, is that it is light and sweet. Easier to refine. Venezuelan oil is the heaviest and worst to refine. When I buy roofing tar it comes from Venezuela.

Not oil. Gas gas gas is what Israel has offshore. Large reserves that are non-exploited. So Israel and Europe need to get to work drilling and building LNG export and import terminals.

BTW, under Putin arse kisser, East German communist born, saboteur Angela Merkel, Germany stopped building a mega-sized LNG import terminal. This was done under pressure from Germany's idiot Greenies. Also, to make Germany inextricably intertwined with Russian natural gas exports and Russian pipelines.

“Hard to believe the Germans actually fell for the false flag “atrocity” events in Ukraine. Along with many others.”

Not really, given post-Cold War history. What would be a REAL SHOCKER is if Germany asked the US or UK to PROVE any of its claims.

“You really think the Ukrainians killed their own Patriots?”

The only ‘Patriots’ that Ukraine’s government sees are Azov.

As far as regular Ukrainians, I agree, probably not.

As far as Ethnic Russians, given Ukraine’s history in Donbas, it would be a shock if they weren’t killing them for propaganda purposes, given the way the media’s behaving.
