The US has few ways to track the substantial supply of anti-tank, anti-aircraft and other weaponry it has sent across the border into Ukraine, sources tell CNN.
In the long term, some of those weapons may wind up in the hands of other militaries and militias that the US did not intend to arm.
In making the decision to send billions of dollars of weapons and equipment into Ukraine, the Biden administration factored in the risk that some of the shipments may ultimately end up in unexpected places, a defense official said.
Privately, officials recognize that Ukraine has an incentive to give only information that will bolster their case for more aid, more arms and more diplomatic assistance.
"I couldn't tell you where they are in Ukraine and whether the Ukrainians are using them at this point," a senior defense official told reporters last week.
"It's up to the Ukrainians to determine where they go and how they're allocated inside their country."
For decades, the US sent arms into Afghanistan, first to arm the mujahideen in their fight against the Soviet army, then to arm Afghan forces in their fight against the Taliban.
Inevitably, some weapons ended up on the black market including anti-aircraft Stinger missiles, the same kind the US is now providing to Ukraine.

What happened to the weaponry sent to the Russians to fight Hitler? A huge amount of it was rerouted, after the war, to help Mao Zedong defeat the Nationalists. Some of that was unearthed by Jay Taylor, during the brief period Soviet archives were cracked open (until Putin slammed them shut) in his book “The Generalissimo”. Perhaps, after this war, Ukraine will reroute any excess to the Chinese opposition to evict the Communists, thereby completing the circle. Hey, you never know.
It’d be foolish not to thing that the stingers will end up on small boats off the Atlantic Seaboard and the Gulf of Mexico. The Javelins will end up throughout Europe and probably come across the Mexican border with the drug cartels. They’d also be excellent anti-Coast Guard weapons. Those suicide drones will end up everywhere as they’ll be the perfect assassination weapons. The Javelins as well.
The Russians will capture half of them. They’ll decide where they go from there.
Likely Putin locates the distribution storehouses and blows what he can up. And there’s more than likely “looting” by all the various groups in the field of battle....citizens as well. I suspect some is transfered out of Ukraine sold to the highest bidder. And as muh likely some never makes it to Ukraine.

There are numerous Telegram channels showing Russians photographing all sorts of American/NATO weaponry that they capture in areas where they’ve either captured or killed Ukrainian armed forces.

A lot are being given to the Russians. I heard in the last 24 hours, individual missiles were gifted to 78 Russian tanks. The Russians were blown away by the generosity.
