Putin is a stupid gangster who controlled the KGB ... anyone who got in his way he could easily get quietly arrested or shot

You have a Disneyfied idea of how kings ascend to the throne. Putin lived in a world of thugs. He merely killed before he was killed. This is Russian history for the last 1000 years. Catherine the Great (German) killed her husband the Tsar and took his place on the throne. Beria poisoned Stalin and was in turn killed by a coalition of opponents led by Zhukov, who was in turn displaced by Khrushchev. It’s a dog-eat-dog world of thieves and cutthroats, and devil take the hindmost.

if you don’t like people, you can’t be a master politician - RR loved people, which is partly why he succeeded

by contrast, Putin hates people, and it shows ... so the only way he can succeed is with gangster tactics - force and bullying
