Some Perspective, Why Governor Ron DeSantis is right to Un-Disney Florida

SB 4C isn't just about political punishment. It's about Floridian autonomy and stopping a wicked giant.

Finally, someone is willing to take on the Mouse. Disney long has loomed large in Florida and dictated what happens in the Sunshine State. In response to the culture war predations by Disney, Floridian Republicans have finally said 'enough is enough' and successfully pushed through legislation to end Disney’s 55-year-old self-governing powers, in which it rules its humongous Florida properties like an all-powerful baron.

While critics have rightly pointed out that the legislation amounts to political punishment, there are freedom reasons to support this change. Whether it's Disney’s support for authoritarian monsters or their terrible damage to legacy franchises, ensuring Floridian voters’ autonomy and curtailing the Mouse's influence in Florida is a welcome change for everyone but Disney. With Senate Bill 4C, Governor Ron DeSantis has done what would have been seen as impossible even a year ago. Florida managed to tame the Mouse.

Czar Mickey:

For the last half-century, Disney has ruled the roost in the Sunshine State. This cozy relationship began in 1965 when Walt began paying millions for thousands of acres of what was then worthless swampland in the middle of nowhere. Back then, Florida was a fourth the size in population it is now. Today Orange County is huge, with almost 1.5 million people. Still, back then, it barely rose above 250,000, with Osceola County only reaching 19,000. There wasn't the political and technical infrastructure to support a giant amusement park.

This is entirely the point; Disney wanted land and power and wanted it cheap. As outlined in the original 1966 announcement: Walt’s grand ambition wasn't just for another theme park but for the “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow” or EPCOT, an innovative imagineered community where people would live,

Disney’s special status was long predicated on Disney staying clear of Florida politics and for decades that’s what they did.

Then the child molesting wokesters took over Disney and suddenly political neutrality went right out the door.

So be it.

Now Disney can answer to elected officials.

Governor Polis said they’re welcome in Colorado. Better yet, since Disney loves degeneracy so much, they can go to Commiefornia.

“While critics have rightly pointed out that the legislation amounts to political punishment, there are freedom reasons to support this change.”

And Disney didn’t start this by dishing out its own political punishment to the duly elected government of Florida, which is nothing short of an attack of the majority of Floridians?

Caught a video this morning with verbiage from the Orange Cty tax dude — he was complaining that with Disney losing special tax status the county would lose a load of $$.

Umm, you think that they are now gonna pay no taxes?

How dumb, and self-serving. They will probably pay more in the long run. But, it might well be spread across the state.

There's real estate in the Caribbean that may be more to Disney's liking.

The author uses the term “punch to the nose.” I prefer “2X4 to the teeth,” and it couldn’t happen to a more deserving company

So appropriate for Disney. I’m sure the Bob’s (Chapek and Iger) have been their to “survey” the property.

They have Disneyland in California and Colorado is not only too close to their other theme park it snows during parts of the year. They would have to seek out a place with great weather, low taxes and tons of open acres.

Thanks mucho for this post, Kaslin !

The link to the article provides a comprehensive, valuable, interesting and absorbing background on the whole ongoing Disney affair.......especially the late Walt Disney's original and brilliant ploy for power over the people of Florida...and continuing with the present Disney owners' fight to continue wielding this power.

A MUST read for Floridians...of which I'm one.

Go, DeSantis !!!!

Building a new Disney would be extraordinarily difficult just in terms of acquiring the necessary land. As soon as word gets out they're trying to buy up land, you're going to see massive holdouts trying to get a premium.

They mostly avoided that in Florida because the land was bought secretly, with dummy businesses, etc.. But there's no way you could pull that off today.
