Its going to get a lot worse. The economy and the dollars could possibly collapse to where the Chines Yuan will become the World’s Reserve Currency and the food supply will collapse cause extensive hunger worldwide.
I fully expect them to go into full “scorched earth”* mode before the mid-terms.
*That is, go into “either we win, or we destroy the country trying.”
