Fox News host and Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson ripped into House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday over recently released audio recordings of the California Republican criticizing then-President Donald Trump and fellow GOP representatives in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
McCarthy promised members of his leadership team, including House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and then-Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney, that he would encourage Trump to resign in a Jan. 10 phone call. After the top House Republican denied having the conversation, two New York Times reporters released an audio recording of the conversation. The two reporters released further clips from the call Tuesday revealing that McCarthy and Scalise were deeply concerned with the social media posts and public comments coming from some members of the GOP conference.
The two men specifically named Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, and Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, among others.
“He’s putting people in jeopardy,” McCarthy said of Gaetz. “And he doesn’t need to be doing this. We saw what people would do in the Capitol, you know, and these people came prepared with rope, with everything else.”
“It’s potentially illegal what he’s doing,” Scalise agreed.
McCarthy added that Brooks’ comments immediately preceding the riot were “almost something that goes further than what the president said.”
Carlson blasted McCarthy’s criticisms, saying that he is no better than Democrats and their allies in the press.

I grew up in the NY area and have known of Trump from his earliest days. He actually does do deep thinking and plotting. But that does not make the tabloids.
I see how Trump operates. He comes to DC, hell bent for leather, and immediately and permanently turns his administration over to the most vile of the DC GOP swampers. These same Judases foil his presidency at every turn and yet Trump still tries to work within their system. The DC GOP conspire with the Dems to cover up their insurrection until the actual GOP coup takes place on 1/7. Then Trump STILL wants to work with these swamp bastards within the Uniparty (R) to reclaim the presidency! Stupid is as stupid does. The guy never learned squat about the GOP during his four year crap show in DC.
His modus operandi these days is to quickly come out swinging to those that insult him

RINOism is under attack, and the second front has been opened by the more fervent defenders of the Constitution, the first front being with the Democrat Socialists. Kevin McCarthy may or may not succeed in winning the position of Speaker of the House, should the Republicans prevail by the margins that now seem to be within the realm of possibility.
Jim Jordan would definitely be my first choice, but this is trickier than predicting the fortunes of any major league baseball team.
No mystery to me. Trump is still doing the calculus on who the new speaker can be in 2023/2024. If he thinks it will be McCarthy then no benefit to bashing him in public now.

That’s not guaranteed and so is a big gamble. It’s easy for others to gamble all or nothing when they have no money on the table.
For Trump to hold his fire and save McCarthy’s bacon should mean the man is for evermore his political slave.
Yup. If Trump thinks someone like Jordan won’t make it then throwing McCarthy a lifeline is smart rather than making him an avowed enemy.

Never. AS long as they is a Republican and Democrat Party. The Democrat Party rules and makes the rules. The Republican Party exists to be the whipping boy for the Democrats. The hierarchy of the Republican Party ensures RINOs will always be in charge. They tease the Conservatives into believing they can take control of the Party to keep them on the reservation. But them taking control ain't happening. There will always be a Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, or Mitt Romney to see that that don't happen. Donald Trump almost made it, but the Republicans collaborated with their Blood Brothers, the Democrats to see that did not happen. He was replaced in the White House by Lying Joe Biden, by popular demand and was the Choice of the People. And the People got what they prayed for and they are enjoying the benefits of their choice now. And the best is yet to come.
