Would someone with more knowledge on this than I please explain very simply this whole Twitter algorithm thing? Thank you.

Would someone with more knowledge on this than I please explain very simply this whole Twitter algorithm thing?

Here's a summary: Their system software was coded to identify selected words and phrases. When such words and phrases were found, the system issued some form of alert and one of the Twitter moderators would decide whether or not the account should be warned, suspended, banned, and so forth.

Avalon Memories explained it pretty well and here's a visual.

Twitter's algorithm(computer code) saw the word Ivermectin or phrasse about Wuhan lab and automatically flagged my tweet with a warning and also set it so it couldn't be replied to, shared etc

Oddly enough, not flagged for Joe Biden is a Pedo. I guess the algorithm does not disagree.

Excellent question. Give Musk some time to open Twitter to the public.

For starters: I read yesterday that after Musk acquired Twitter, the “followers counts” for leftist dropped by thousands while the “followers counts” for conservatives increased by the same or similar amounts.

I presume that the more followers you have the more “the algorithm” will give you more credibility and your posts will have a higher weighting than others. Plus, the fewer followers means that your posts will not be spread as widely.

The algorithm is probably more complicated than that but this is a start.

It’s a complex computer code that does one thing well: disappears all conservative articles and comments.

We must pass laws to protect privacy and promote algorithmic justice for internet users, especially for kids.

You can think of a software algorithm as a ‘plan’

When you write software you first create an algorithm that would perform the task you need to accomplish. An Architect works with blueprints, a programmer works with algorithms.

Written algorithms (in this case) means searching out keywords and not allowing them to be shown, or not allowing the POSTER to post any more.

So “Algorithmic Justice” (in this case) literally means “no conservative thought allowed”

Well, there are far too many posts made every second on social media for actual people to be moderating them all. Yet they have to be moderated for legal liability reasons. So these companies create algorithms that machines can implement, to screen for posts that violate the rules. If the algorithm finds something that looks suspect, instead of flagging it for review by a real human, the standard now is just to remove or suppress the post automatically, and the decision will only be reviewed by a human if the poster makes an appeal.

The problem is that the rules the algorithms use to remove posts are not known to the public, and don’t actually seem to conform to the publicly available “term and conditions” or “community standards” on many of these sites. Everyone suspects that leftist employees at the companies have cooked in some political bias into what should be an unbiased computer program. But the companies deny that, and as long as their algorithms are proprietary data, nobody can prove that they are using these things to push a political agenda without getting some court order to make them reveal the inner workings of their software.

Elon Musk has said that when he takes over Twitter, he wants to make the workings of the Twitter algorithm public.
