“Unfortunately, NATO, it seems, considers itself to be at war with Russia,” he said. “NATO and EU leaders, many of them, in England, in the US, Poland, France, Germany and of course EU chief diplomat Josep Borrell, they bluntly, publicly and consistently say, ‘Putin must fail, Russia must be defeated.’ When you use this terminology, I believe you think that you are at war with the person who you want to be defeated.”
Since the invasion began on February 24, the US, UK and EU have sanctioned more than 1,000 Russian individuals and businesses and wealthy businessmen, with the US banning all Russian oil and gas imports.
Lavrov said: “To believe that this latest outrage and the wave of sanctions, which eventually showed the real face of West which, as far as I now understand, has always been Russian-phobic, to believe that this latest wave of sanctions is going to make Russia cry uncle and to beg for being pardoned, those planners are lousy and of course they don’t know anything about foreign policy of Russia and they don’t know anything about how to deal with Russia.”
Weapons systems being supplied to Ukrainian forces include surface-to-air missiles, heavy artillery and surveillance equipment.
Lavrov said Russia has put forward many proposals to end the war in Ukraine but drawn a blank so far. Ukraine was at fault for the stalled peace talks, he said, blaming what he said was the government’s changing negotiating positions.
Russia has accused the Pentagon of funding and developing biological weapons in a number of laboratories across Ukraine.
Lavrov also accused the West of sabotaging the peace attempts, claiming that negotiations in Istanbul last month had been progressing on issues of Russian territorial claims and security guarantees until Ukrainian diplomats backtracked at the behest of the West.

Had to muster any sympathy for the country that launched the invasion.
Russia is committing what will be known as one of the great strategic errors in history.
They have not realized NATO intends to destroy them.
Completely.
Therefore they are not fighting existential war.

I don’t think anyone believes that any more.
I think they totally understand that NATO intends to destroy them. They seem to make adjustments to harsh realities over time.
I think they originally did not plan to stay in Ukraine after the de-nazification and de-militarization. They intended to get a neutrality agreement and leave.
Once it became clear that the West wanted the conflict to go on for years and result in the much desired “regime change” they changed their initial plan and have decided to remain in Ukraine. And there are rumors circulating, though who knows if they are true, that they intend to declare war on May 9th.

Ok, let’s caveat: It ends the minute russia fucks off to its own side of the 2014 border, and pays reparations for all the people it murdered and things it destroyed in Ukraine. They broke it, they need to fix it. Then it ends.
It’s ironic that it’s the new world order that’s out to destroy us is pushing us in to WWIII. And it’s very discouraging how easily we can be manipulated to acting against our best interests. Like it or not, we have a common interest with Putin, and are only at odds over the Ukraine. It’s not really that complicated.
So naturally, you should support the country that provoked it...

“We” have lots of common interests with Putin. Hitler also had lots of common interests with Churchill. That isn’t much of an argument, if some conflicting interests are important enough to fight over.
