The “bizarro world” of the commercials is less about social engineering and more about targeting the last people watching commercials; showing stupid dumpy white guys is a gamble they feel is worthwhile because he isn’t watching anyway - and if he is, they’ll never convince him to buy their crap with his hard-earned wages.
