This is (IMHO) in order to give the dems something “existential” to run on. “Help us increase our majorities so that we can pack the court! Ss we must reverse this travesty!”.

Exactly. The Dems are desperate for an issue to fire up a large percent of the population. Some kind of abortion ruling from the supreme court would do the trick. And if the supreme court wants to destroy the mid-term blowout, they might actually try to accomplish this. But my guess is they won’t— as the court rarely likes to piss off 60% of the population.
