Also convicted was Joanne Chesimard, a member of the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Army who later escaped from prison in New Jersey and fled to Cuba. She became the first woman on the FBI's most wanted terrorist list and changed her name to Assata Shakur Published 1 hour ago • Updated 30 mins ago

New Jersey's highest court has ordered an octogenarian convicted of murdering a New Jersey state trooper nearly 50 years ago in one of the state’s most infamous crimes released from prison, reversing a parole board's decision earlier this year.

In a narrow 3-2 ruling released Tuesday, the New Jersey Supreme Court said there was no "substantial credible evidence" to support the state parole board’s findings that the release of Sundiata Acoli presents an ongoing danger to the public.

Acoli, who was denied parole eight times over the years, was convicted of the 1973 killing of State Trooper Werner Foerster during a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike. He went by the name Clark Edward Squire at the time.

Another case where life in prison isn't.

Sounds like a Biden-type Democrat ruling.

They just don’t want to pay for him with the prison budget. Shove him onto the regular dole.

I think you hit on the real story here.

In recent years I've noticed a trend of violent offenders 70+ years of age getting paroled despite their "life sentences." I suspect the prison systems in most states want to get these losers off their books so they don't have to pay for their health care costs late in life.

Leonard Peltier is another cop-killer the far left has been trying to free for years.

Exactly right.

A study a few years ago show the cost of elderly inmates is over 3x of the younger ones. IDC what they’ve done.... if they are too old to be a threat to society and they’ve done decades in prison, let their families pay for their elder care.

The level of danger in releasing someone is only part of the equation...another part is punishment.Cop killers should be executed...the fact that this filthbag wasn't is,by itself,an act of mercy. Let criminals worldwide know...if you commit certain kinds of crimes here in the US there *will* be consequences...serious ones!

This decision has absolutely nothing to do with the cost of maintaining the inmate in prison.

This is a high profile radical revolutionary who executed an officer. The New Jersey Supreme Court is extremely left wing.

Reversing the parole board to let him out is a disgusting immoral and radical political message.
