Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., will be opposing a Democratic abortion bill when it is up for a procedural vote Wednesday afternoon, stating that it is too broad for his liking.

Manchin said that while he would vote for a bill that would legalize abortion on the federal level, the bill before the Senate now "is not what I was hoping for and what I expected" because it goes too far.

Not always but most of the time Joe Manchin seems to have far more guts and integrity than 99% of Republicants.

It doesn’t matter, since the bill is a completely pointless gesture anyway.

It’s a matter for the states to decide.

LOL, he's a yes vote. All they need to do is remove partial birth aborthion and "up to the moment of birth" and Roe v. Wade is the law of the land. From the article: "I was hopeful that the Democratic Party having control of the agenda would put a piece of legislation forward that would codify Roe v. Wade," Manchin said, stating that 70% of the American people want this.

He’s running scared. He won by a sliver during the last election. Trump will hopefully put an end to this lying scumbag’s career. His voting record is far worse than Susan Collin’s. And Manchin is in a deep red state whereas Collins’s seat would be Democrat if not for her.

That’s kinda like someone saying they would support the legalization slavery, as long as it doesn’t go too far.

Side note to Sen. Manchin: Try to side with the angels on this one, Joe.

Schumer will be known for taking meaningless votes, this is not his first. What a total loser he is.

So whether or not a child in the womb is a legal person can vary from state to state?

I understand the pragmatic view that by pushing this back to the states more babies will be saved; at least those in Red states. However, it seems odd that whether or not a fetus is a human being or legal person is decided not by science but instead by where the mother happens to be when she gives birth.

I, like many on FR, believe that just because a foreigner happens to give birth to her baby in the US doesn't make that kid a US citizen. A mother with a fetus shouldn't be able to decide whether or not it is human or a legal person by choosing where to have the abortion.

It’s unconstitutional for the federal government to enact a statute forbidding the states from doing what the Constitution allows them to do. Amendment X.

“stating that it is too broad for his liking”

HIS liking? Regardless of the Bill, just once I’d like to see one of these guys respond with “I want to see what the people I represent say about this before I vote.” Damn the Party they belong to.

Lots of people making money from the abortion industry. Part of an article from 2007, trafficking hs probably grown exponentially since then. From another thread;

He found that all Ukrainian women are advised to abort because preborn children are excellent sources of organs and stem cells.

Dr. Lazaryev found that the abortion rate in Ukraine is much, much higher than the official figures would suggest — in fact, about 1.2 million annually in a nation with a population of about 46 million, or more than six times higher than the abortion rate in the United States.

As Dr. Lazaryev says, “The only thing which protects unborn life in Ukraine is the courage of pregnant women.”

Continuing his investigations, Dr. Lazaryev found that women were paid $200 to $300 — three month’s salary — to carry their pregnancies to a very late stage and to deliver the babies alive in a kind of forced premature birth. This procedure allows the living baby’s organs to be harvested while they are still as fresh as possible.

Dr. Lazaryev also found that every region of Ukraine has twin institutions. One does the late-term ‘artificial deliveries,’ and the other dismembers the live-born baby and passes the parts on to other buyers, who screen the material and then sell it at a huge markup to the worldwide network of “clinics” like the Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

Abortion clinics located in the poorest parts of Donetsk and Kharkov sell aborted babies to middlemen, who ship the sad little bodies to cities like Moscow, where there are more than 50 beauty parlors using fetal injections.

He is not one of us but if you think it’s bad now if Manchin had gone along with killing the filibuster the country would be gone, dead, unrecoverable. So he may be an opportunist but thank God he is.
