‘They were furious’: the Russian soldiers refusing to fight in Ukraine

Troops are saying no to officers, knowing that punishment is light while Russia is not technically at war.

When the soldiers of an elite Russian army brigade were told in early April to prepare for a second deployment to Ukraine, fear broke out among the ranks.

The unit, stationed in Russia’s far east during peacetime, first entered Ukraine from Belarus when the war started at the end of February and saw bitter combat with Ukrainian forces.

“It soon became clear that not everyone was onboard with it. Many of us simply did not want to go back,” said Dmitri, a member of the unit who asked not to be identified with his real name. “I want to return to my family – and not in a casket.”

Along with eight others, Dmitri told his commanders that he refused to rejoin the invasion. “They were furious. But they eventually calmed down because there wasn’t much they could do,” he said.

He was soon transferred to Belgorod, a Russian city close to the border with Ukraine, where he has been stationed since. “I have served for five years in the army. My contract ends in June. I will serve my remaining time and then I am out of here,” he said. “I have nothing to be ashamed of. We aren’t officially in a state of war, so they could not force me to go.”

Liz Truss Approves This Message

Peter Hitchens Column Saturday April 30, 2022

"In the United Kingdom, a DSMA-Notice (Defense and Security Media Advisory Notice) is an official request to news editors not to publish or broadcast items on specified subjects for reasons of national security..."

British journalist Peter Hitchens, the contrarian conservative journalist and outspoken defender of British tradition and traditional values including a Christian aversion to war, now finds himself constrained in his work by a government order.

This means that the Brit journopuppets who ARE writing about Ukraine are writing government-approved pieces.

And the government is firmly behind Ukraine...

This is what all US military personnel should do if any democrat president orders them to war.

And it is costing Ukraine’s Western backers a fortune. After giving Ukraine much of their own weapons, the UK has been scouring the world looking to buy Russian military equipment to give to Ukraine.

In addition NATO is going to take out 15 billion in loans every 3 months to give to Ukraine.

And today Britain makes this announcement based on their need to cut costs. Proxy wars are expensive...:-)

Mikhailovich said his men had been duped into believing they were rescuing the country from Nazis and were surprised to be met with a fight.

The prisoners first appeared in front of the cameras and talked to journalists.

Three Russian police officers arrived at the news agency accompanied by security forces.

A representative of the special Rapid Response Unit, Senior Commissioner for the Department of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Mikhailovich Astakhov, inspector of the information and documentation group of the mobile special purpose unit Evgeny Viktorovich Spiridonov and senior police sergeant, an employee of the mobile special purpose unit of the city of Novokuznetsk in the Kemerovo region Vitalievich Plotnikov were taken prisoner.

An unnamed senior US defense official told Voice of America on Tuesday that many on the Russian side were conscripts with no experience of real fighting.

“Some of them weren’t even told they were going to be in combat,” he said.

“We’ve seen a number of anecdotal reports by young Russian soldiers saying, ‘I didn’t even know I was here. I thought I was on exercises. No one told me I was going to war. No one told me I was going to kill Ukrainians,’” he said.

At a striking presentation last week at the United Nations, Ukraine’s ambassador presented a text-message exchange he said was between a Russian soldier and his mother before he was killed.

In the texts, the unnamed soldier appeared to inform his mother that he was not really on a training mission and had instead been deployed into a “real war.”

“We were told that they would welcome us,” the the exchange said, but instead the locals were “falling under our armored vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not allowing us to pass.”

“They call us fascists,” the texts added. “Mama, this is so hard.”

Accounts of ignorance of the impending invasion within the armed forces track with those from elsewhere in the Russian state.

I dunno - buying weapons to give to Ukraine to destroy Russia’s military threat sounds like a pretty good investment. And no US/UK/NATO soldiers get hurt.

Win-win.

The Ukes should keep on slaughtering Russian soldiers until the Russkies wise up and turn what’s left of their weapons on their lying, cowardly leaders all the way back to the Kremlin for forcing them into this illegal war.
