Kill Japan’s Elderly? Cannes Film Probes Chilling Idea
Breitbart ^ | 5-22-2022

A Japanese filmmaker is shaking Cannes film audiences to the core with a dystopian vision of her country in which old people agree to be euthanized to solve the challenge of a rapidly aging population.

“Plan 75” by Japanese director and writer Chie Hayakawa is based on a very real problem.

Japan is the most rapidly-aging industrial society, a trend that is causing huge economic and political problems as a dwindling number of younger people must support a growing army of the old.

Close to 30 percent of Japan’s population is over 65, the majority women, and that rate is expected to continue rising in the coming decades.

In the movie, anybody over 75 is encouraged to sign up for a deal with the government by which they receive a sum of money in return for agreeing to be euthanized. A collective funeral is thrown in for free.

Slick ad campaigns and calls from people with soothing voices are part of the effort to get people to sign up. Handsome advisors list the small pleasures candidates could afford with the money. “You’ll be able to go to the restaurant,” says one.

“On the face of it, the government’s Plan 75 is full of goodwill and friendliness and pragmatism, but in truth, it is both very cruel and shameful,” Hayakawa told AFP in an interview.

“The aging of the population is not a recent problem, I’ve always heard people discussing it,” she said.

“When I was young, a long life was considered to be a good thing, people had respect for older people. That’s no longer the case,” the 45-year-old director added.

‘Cold and cruel’

“Plan 75”, Hayakawa’s first full-length feature film, is full of slow sequences with minimal camera movement.

“I wanted the images to be aesthetic and beautiful....

I saw a special on Japanese culture a while back that discussed this issue. The gist of it was there is such a cultural stigma in Japan about putting elderly parents in a nursing home, that very few nursing homes even exist and about the only elderly people in them are ones that are childless. However, this has created a situation where younger working adults are simply unable to take care of their parents, especially if they have issues like dementia where they require full time care. This has to a weird situation where children are essentially killing off their parents or as the Japanese politely translate it to “encouraging them to die”, all with a tacit wink and nod from the medical community, in fact Doctors will often prescribe combinations of drugs that will hasten death when asked.

Yup, first thing I thought of too.

On a related note, what does ‘guaranteed’ mean in this context? What’s your recourse if it’s less than 20 minutes?

The problem isn’t too many old people, but too few young people. I remember reading about a child robot available in Japan that people could give to their older parents in place of the grandchildren they wouldn’t be having. One day that Japanese might figure out that sex robots and below-zero population growth are dead ends.

"The solutions are there if you look to the obvious."

On an earlier thread about this country's MIV (Migrant Invader Vermin) problems, a solution was postulated that addresses the needs of nations with dwindling additions to their population numbers...

Yemen, Somalia, South Africa, Kenya, Sudan, Japan, and Russia all have population problems...

We have 45-to-50 million MIVs sucking the life out of our economy and culture...
Along with the people who support them, every last one of these MIVs could be weeded out and deported (DOA) to any, or all, of these nations to take advantage of the enumerable opportunities they would have to be out from under the threat of domestic terrorism from the American MAGA devils...

Better do something soon, because in the next year or so these communist bastards will begin weeding us out...

the Japanese (wisely) want to keep Japan for themselves.

No, they don't. Their low birth rate is a "no confidence" vote on their own culture and a form of slow motion suicide.

Our overlords want no more than 500 million; we’re hitting 8 billion—and you say we’re not cranking out enough children?

“””The US is welcoming immigrants and providing them first dibs on products intended for infants.

Except the Japanese (wisely) want to keep Japan for themselves.”””

I agree. The Japanese allow foreign workers, but they are not given citizenship.

What a novel concept. Maybe the USA should have the same policy.

As it stands now, we have 340 million folks in the USA.

Are there any FReepers who want 500 million folks in the USA???????

The rapidly aging population needs to be countered with a rapidly increasing birthrate. If child bearing females are not having hot sweaty sex to produce magnificent warrior boys, then Japan is a dead nation walking.

Yes, as another poster pointed out, one problem is that a lot of older Japanese are childless and have no one to take care of them. There are also older people who have adult children who are unable or unwilling to bear the responsibility for caring for them. People don’t have to go nuts and have seven kids. Normal replacement level would be fine. As far as our overlords are concerned, I wouldn’t be broken up if a lot of them made early exits.

This will be like 1984. Meant as a cautionary tale. Used by the left as a playbook.
