Right on. Even when they were flying 1930's Tiger Moths...

In the book it was surplus DH-4s.

“”The “fossil fuel” crowd never explain just how all that carbon was on the surface in the first place””

It wasn’t at the surface, it was laid out on the bottom of ancient seas.

“”I think it questionable at best to think all this petroleum came from lizard carcasses.””

To think any of it came from lizard carcasses is rather amusing.

The oceans of this world are producing oil as fast as it can.

I take it that he is euphimistacally and sarcastically refering to dinosaurs as “lizards”.

“petroleum is just a mineral.”

Slept through 9th grade science class?

” and petroleum is just a mineral.”

By definition, petroleum is not a mineral.

This should be fact checked. My understanding is that the Russian government did precisely that and is now a major oil producer because. I do not know the geology behind it and the Russkies ain’t talkin’.

“Clearly oil is made over time, but if you think it’ll be made in 1000 lifetimes to replenish wells, Rush was wrong.”

You have zero proof of that statement.

So very plausible!

There was a very deep well drilled in Sweden as a test of some of Gold’s theories. I never did hear the results of that. I assume it was negative or someone would have crowed about it. Anyway, one hole neither proves nor disproves!

or just accepted the ‘stories’ about him ....

JDR is the original rags to riches story. Unlike many of the modern era chieftains (many of whom had at worst upper middle class background), JDR came from nowheresville NY and moved to Ohio. Started working at 16YO. He was able to put together financing for a refinery and built that into the biggest business empire the world has ever seen.

I think that has to be admired. He was also a religious man and tithed to his church. More than can be said of the Titans of Industry in the modern era.

I did a search for price gouging and found that under JDR the price of Kerosine went down while the quality went up. Also oil prices to the consumer declined during the period that Standard Oil had the most control over the market.

I'm not sure what your point on scarcity is. Standard Oil was broken up in 1911, effectively taking total control out of JDR's hands. He died in 1937. The "clan's" power has been diluted as the years go by. My friends with a conspiratorial bent were always afraid of David Rockefeller and the Trilateral commission. But he's dead now and the trilateral commission has been replaced by the WEF.

“Doesn’t every businessman have a self-serving history?”

You can generalize that even further. Doesn’t every human have a self interest history?

Everything any human does (including you) is for his self interest, as he understands it. And it’s not always about money.

Think about what is important to you and you’ll discover what your self interests are.

Its a naturally occurring substance in the earth unrelated to fossils of any kind. It is as much a mineral as water.

“Its a naturally occurring substance in the earth unrelated to fossils of any kind. It is as much a mineral as water.”

Wrong. On several points:

The word “mineral” means something very specific to Earth scientists. By definition, a mineral:

Is naturally formed;
Is solid;
Is formed by inorganic processes;
Has a specific chemical composition; and
Has a characteristic crystal structure

Questions:

One of the things that has me concerned, is the extent of drilling that has already taken place. If you ever watched one of Dutchsense's youtube videos on earthquakes, he drills down on satellite images where there are tremors in the west and there are just tens of thousands of oil wells in those images, covering huge areas of the west.

The US uses about 7 billion barrels of oil a day and our proven reserves are about 43 billion. Unproven reserves are thought to be about 3 times that.

We need to be building a lot of nuclear plants using newer safer designs. Waiting until there is a crisis and major economic disruption due to oil shortages is not acceptable.
