School officials believe a threat posted on social media against a Montgomery County high school was actually part of an elaborate plan to bully another student.
The threat against Winston Churchill High School was posted on social media Tuesday. Montgomery County Police (MCP) Detectives investigated the threat and found there was "no immediate credible threat" to the school.
Principal John Taylor now says the posted threat was part of a plan to bully the student who owns the account that was used to make the threats. Taylor claims the bullied student had no involvement in posting the threats.
"That student was himself the victim of a plan designed to bully him and bring public outrage and school punishment upon him," Taylor explained in a letter to parents Thursday.
The principal believes the threats were designed to get the bullied student in trouble and that there was no plan to ever carry out any violent acts at the high school.
The school continues to investigate the incident and Taylor says they will do whatever they can to avoid such inappropriate behaviors.
"Our team will work to determine and assign consequences for these behaviors that have caused such widespread disruption to our school community," Taylor said.

Like everything else these days, an article to make us think, this issue is widespread in our society.
People with no “morality shoved down their throats” have no sense of right and wrong and act like heathens accordingly.
Who does that crap? I am trying to think what sort of “prank” we could have pulled on someone that could compare.
[Not a fan of the term “bullying” here, though.]

“SWATing” is a real thing among online videogame players. Just the same thing only students using the school as the club rather than videogamers using the cops...who might get pulled in, too.
Beat me to it.
For some reason this sorrowful and desolate story brings a scene in “Little Big Man” to mind.
In the scene, Jack Crabb is wandering in the wilderness as sort of an outcast from both White and Indian society. He comes upon an animal trap. The trap has the leg of a wolf in it. The wolf had chewed off his own leg to escape the trap.
Something in Jack snaps and he climbs a high cliff in order to jump off. He can’t stand living in a world where such horrific obscenities exist.
Right at that moment redemption & revenge are presented to him, right in front of him.
Raising such great kids these days !
There is work to be done to fix politics.
There is work to be done to fix schools.
But the core issue is really to somehow fix parents. And the damaged kids we have today are going to be parents soon, they will be even worse. Imagine what their kids will be like in 20 years or so.
At heart, it’s a God problem.
“The principal believes the threats were designed to get the bullied student in trouble and that there was no plan to ever carry out any violent acts at the high school.”
The principal is a dangerous lunatic himself.
I’m not sure how I’d feel about my child being the target and continuing at this school.
The child is dead, having shot up the school and perished in the process. Either they prodded the wrong kid, or the threats were by him, and real.
This is why you don’t rush out and put the kid’s picture and name in the paper, on the 6 o’clock news, and on every school’s milk cartons.
Oh it is- my own daughter was the victim of a similar incident at her school back in September. A girl who my daughter considered to be a good friend got other students to spread rumors my daughter had threatened another student during class and that she had a “kill list” in a notebook. Other students in the class backed my daughter who vehemently denied threatening anyone and did not have such a list. My husband and I met with the headmaster who said he knew our daughter was completely innocent and would back us all the way. Unfortunately the damage was done to my daughter’s reputation (and ours to but that’s another story). We pulled her from that school and moved her to another one in another town- which in my eyes was God’s plan all along because the new school has been an absolute blessing.
This is a school in Maryland. This kid was accused of posting threats on social media. But, according to the principal, he didn’t post those threats - other kids were setting him up.
Glad to hear your daughter is in a better school now.
When the Ashton Lundeby case started, I did some light research. There are tens of thousands of bomb threat hoaxes a year.
Getting hard to keep track of this sh!t. Too many at once. My bad.
It’s easy to understand the confusion. Media is so hell-bent on capitalizing on any story distantly applicable to ANY mass shooting, schools or otherwise. It’s the most disgusting aspect of that abhorrent profession - If it bleeds, it leads.
