former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke was locked in a tight primary race for the other seat with former state Sen. Al “Doc” Olszewski of Kalispell. No votes had been reported from Lincoln, Glacier and Beaverhead counties by midnight.
Zinke, who served as a Cabinet member under then-President Donald Trump, is running for the seat to represent the western part of the state after Montana was granted a second representative due to population growth documented in the 2020 census.

“open primary”
There were about 85 U.S. HOUSE seats around the country that nominated candidates yesterday ... California, NJ, etc.
Because of incumbency, redistricting, gerrymandering, etc. this was the only GOP primary that had significance. Others were so non-competitive that the winner was known weeks ago.
Trump endorsed Zinke, who served in his Cabinet.
“Local conservatives” like myself have serious concerns about his behavior while in Trump’s cabinet. Zinke shot himself in the foot on that point. Additionally, conservations are supporting a conservative challenger. This new district will be red.
Yes, OPEN.
there’s no party registration in Montana
I don’t know why Mary Todd didn’t drop out and endorse Olszewski. (Mary finished 3rd with 10%). Perhaps the right wasn’t determined to get rid of Zinke. Or perhaps conservatives are dumb
Pinging MT
“open primary”
Another one?? :-(
If a state does not require registration by party, the primary is not really open. Indeed, voters could also vote in the Dem primary.
I keep telling folks, understand what conservatism is. It starts with build the wall and equal to that is DRAIN THE SWAMP.
Anyone who has been in politics over 10 years is NOT CONSERVATIVE. They are the swamp.
Every single House candidate, even if they are unquestioned pro Trump, are thinking about collecting that salary for more than a decade.
They are not conservative.
paywall.... i don’t disable the ad blocker..screw them.
is Zinke leading? by how much?
will it go to a runoff?
There’s no success on setting up a Progressive vs. Moderate general in the DEM safe house seats.
Kumar is the only one worth supporting. Running against Eshoo, the incumbent.
15 Canepa. No.
16 Kumar. Term limits. Yes.
34 Kim is far left
37 Lee is far left. Perry is interesting. Convert to Judaism. But a progressive nut

Zinke leads by 1.5% with 89% counted
It’s a shame that prolife pastor Mary Todd didn’t care

was McConnell’s PAC backing Zinke?
sure sounds like trump may have blown this one
I doubt if McConnell’s PAC got involved in a House election. Their focus is on the Senate.
Zinke was in Trump’s cabinet ... doubt he’d try to defeat Zinke. Not a typical move
I’m a Montanan, you have to register party. Received party specific ballots. Stick to Connecticut politics ok.
I don’t know what to do first. Can we get this error fixed on the Secretary of State website?
https://sosmt.gov/elections/faq/
“There is no party registration in Montana. Individuals who vote in a primary election are given all the parties’ ballots, and can choose in private which party ballot they wish to vote. Voters in a primary election cannot vote more than one party’s ballot”
In the meantime, we could try to get this thread pulled.
